Hi. I just joined Literotica (only a few days ago) and would like to publish a story. I've been working on it for two days now and believe it's close to being ready. However, I'm afraid that it may not be accepted because of the length of it. I've tried to cut it down but (and maybe it's because I'm a woman) I believe I need to portray the emotion that was behind the actual night that my husband and I spent with another guy. I've gone through the tips and suggestions but, so far, I haven't found a "top end" limit on submissions. In addition, I'm worried that maybe a lot of readers will only be interested in the actual sex "scenes" and simply won't care about my own thoughts (which are extremely important to me). Any suggestions from any of you "veterans"?
Thanks.

Most readers like a bit of plot with their stroke. What's your word count?

Someone will be interested no matter what you post. A lot of people really enjoy looking at the emotion involved.

Unless the document is scores of Word pages long there probably won't be a problem in posting.

You should be fine. One Lit page is approximately 3500 words. Just make sure it's not a solid wall of text. Paragraphs should be 6 or 7 lines long, give or take a few, and broken up with dialogue.

A welcome  for the little newbie from the good little witch.

My only advice is beware of "Loving Wives" it's not. It's a shallow shark pond waiting for the unaware newbie.

And welcome to the AH Madhouse. Remember to count fingers and toes when entering and exiting the ride. To many or to few are just as bad. :D

Yessssssssssssss... Finish your story and submit it. Then come back here and ask how long it takes to post. It's so much fun when you new people do that :D

Can I add my welcome.
Only thing I'd add is maybe get someone to give the story a quick once over to highlight any obvious problems. Be prepared for a long wait and maybe a couple of rewrites before you get accepted. Don't give up look on this as a learning curve, when you've done it once it gets easier next time.

Best wishes,
Chris

You could have at least added it might take more than a week. Or is this some sort of virgin hazing that I missed the memo on?

Hi, Atlanta Girl, and welcome to the Author's Hangout. We have never been able to figure exactly which author owns the hangout, so we all come here and use it. Eventually, the author who owns it might kick us all out but, until that happens, it's a nice place to come to waste time that should be spent on writing, such as I am doing now.

Ten HD pages would be about 5,000 or 6,000 words, which is not particularly long. There are works ten times that long, or more, although such stories tend to be broken into chapters.

There are people who look for the smutty parts of stories to read, and these are the folks I write for. Even so, you should include the motivations and other aspects if you want people to take you seriously. Even I usually devote a couple of paragraphs to describing how and why the persons in the story got involved in the threesome.

Welcome to Lit, AtlantaGirl!

On the average, my stories are 7,000-9,000 words long. I had one that was over 15,000, and I decided it was best to divide it into three parts. I probably could have gotten by with just two, though.

Don't be. It's true you will run up against the kind of reader who is looking nothing but stroke--I call them Stroke Purists. Fuck them. (Not that I would). There is plenty of stuff out there for them. Write the kind of story you like to read. Someone's bound to like it. To thine own self be true.

What ST said. Is true. Also the advice about shortening the paragraphs. Once I did that, my scores improved quickly.

TK's advice is good, but do it the way you want to. My best scoring story breaks one of the fundamental rules.

Getting someone else to read it before you submit is another bit of good advice (and I've ignored that myself too). A good editor is worth their weight in body fluids.

I don't qualify for 'good', but I'll read it for you if you want. If so, send me a PM.

LOL... how many times do they ask that? I bet you could do a search and find thousands of posts regarding that question.

I think of it like a slim-fast commercial... give it a week... (or more)

And once you've submitted the story . . . DON'T TOUCH IT!! Every time you push "submit" it puts the story back at the end of the line.
