OK. These fuckers at the back of my mouth are driving me nuts floating around and poking my tongue. How long do these buggers take to dissolve and can I speed it up in any way?

If they're really too long, can you have someone trim them a little, perhaps they won't annoy you so much? Your dentist should offer to accommodate this request.

If I remember correctly (we're talking fifteen years here), they drove me nuts for weeks. And no, I don't know of any way of speeding things up, or I would have.

Don't try to speed them up or you might have to be re-stitched.

I think they usually take about 1-2 weeks (10 days sticks in my head for some reason).

well I was seriously drugged up at the time, and I can't be sure whether the nurse said 16-18 days or 60-80 days. I'm really hoping it was the former.

And don;t worry. I'm scared shitless of touching those stitches, I just want them to fall out on their own. Apparently the salt-rinses help dissolve them quicker... but that may be a rumour put about to make people do their rinses religiously.

I also have this weird swollen lump on one side of my jaw, but I'll give myself a couple more days before I freak out. It's not like I'm running a fever or anything.

Gah. At least I can bitch about all these things properly now the nausea seems to be dying down (please God).

I cant wait for you to have a baby!

hehehehe! Sorry I couldn't resist.

The salt washes help the healing and help to disolve the stitches. Im sure the lump is just swelling in the socket which will subside. You can take an asprin and disolve it in water and hold it in your mouth for a bit to releave some of the pain, then swallow.

Do you have a mini hot water bottle? If you do, fill it up and lay it against your cheeks, but only leave it on for a few minutes at a time.

Hugs and kisses (gentle ones)

I've been going to sleep with my face on an ice pack

and hey - at least when you have a baby you get a baby at the end of it. But yeah, there probably will be gallons of bitching about those problems, too :D

I think my daughter is never going to have children, everytime something hurts I always say, "you think thats bad, try giving birth!"

She had a planters wart taken care of the other day, the dr just laughed when I said it, then proceded to stick another q-tip with liquid nitro on the wart!

happy days!

If my mum said that I'd probably remind her that that was almost 25 years ago and about time she got over it. :p

Went to see dentist today. She snipped the loose trailing thread, thank god. Exclaimed in confusion at the fact the stitches will take 40 days to dissolve (I rang the hospital - 40! seriously!) and complimented me on how well I've healed!

No-one has *ever* been impressed at my healing ability. My whole life I've been poorly with a weak immune system and now I'm actually healing well - no swelling, no bruising and I can open my mouth well!

I am so chuffed!
