Not ordinarily a subject for political discussion, but CATL the world's largest producer of large capacity batteries has announced the completion of successful testing of a solid state Sulphide based battery, and that it will be in production by 2027. It will have an energy density about 3.5 to 3.75 times that of existing large batteries. A unit of sufficient size to power EV's would give a car a range of about 800 miles between recharges and it could be charged to 80% capacity in about 8 minutes.. CATL is a scary company because they, unlike many competitors consistently achieve their production targets on time. Catl is the main supplier of Batteries to Tesla. Given that Mr Musk is Trumps new best buddy and that the Biden administration worked hard to keep Chinese EV's out with Tarriffs, it will be interesting to see how Musk gets access to this technology without huge tariffs.
