Everyone has heard words that have helped them through dark times, through days when things don't go your way, or when life just seems determined to break you.
We've all heard them, words of wisdom, phrases of simple truth, or simply heartfelt support. Even a simple :rose: can make someone smile.

I thought it might be good for us to contribute them into a thread, so that those who are having a bad day, or a bad year, can maybe find something in them that will make their day a little bit better.

Feel free to quote away, or contribute your own. You never know who might find comfort in your words.

I'll start this off with one of my favourites, a famous quote by Elbard Hubbard, which will maybe help some of the ladies out there, who are particularly frustrated by their male counterpart....

Every man is a damn fool for at least five minutes every day; wisdom consists in not exceeding the limit.

And this one from a certainly less well-known philospher...

What's for you will not miss you.
My Grandmother
Actually in broad scots, it comes out something like, "Whits fur ye'll naw miss ye." :)

my dad
in his infinate wisdom"the sun don't shine on the same dog's ass every day"
corny and simple i know
but oh so true

Absolutely true!
Funny how our elders often provide the best advice, but it is the least listened to...

The value of learning from our mistakes...

A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way.
Mark Twain

i was a good girl
well,,,as a child anyway
my dad hads lots to say,,and I listened

Yeah, I never listened.... I had to learn from my mistakes the hard way. Harsh lessons make for harsh teachers. However, I'm fortunate enough now that I consider myself to be a source of good advice.
I still utterly suck at taking my own, but that's something for me to work on, I guess!

a stubborn scotsman?why i have never heard of such silliness
;)

That's why we never leave parties with any drink left... we just HAVE to finish that bottle! :D

so then it is true what my mum told me about my ancestory
they really ARE from scotland and wales
THAT explains a lot
and why there are never any halvsies of wine, tequila,or vodka bottles in my house:D

Don't remember her because she's no longer with us.
Remember her life.
Remember who she was, and how she lived.
All the experiences, the silly things, the quirks and traits that made her who she was.
Keep her alive in your heart by talking of her, by telling her tales, by remembering her as she lived.
Farts and all.
Then she'll be alive forever.

By me, part of my gran's eulogy.

I try to remember every day that 'I'm A Book'
Sounds nuts, right?

I have a deeply ingrained habit of closing myself off to others, and not letting them see me, and its a habit that I've fought for years. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose.
But, I'm a book, nevertheless.

Sometimes I sit on the shelf, basking in the sun, or gathering dust
Frequently I might get a casual glance.
Sometimes a reader might peruse the cover, and sometimes they'll go to the effort of reading the jacket
Others might read the back-cover and assume they know the story
Every so often, someone wants to invest the time and effort to read my story and learn my character. They get the abridged version.
Rarely though, once or twice in a lifetime, a reader might come along who warrants the whole book, the complete version.
They're special. They have the book that is worth my complete reading.
Because within those pages is something magical.

I know unless I let others look at my book, and I look at others, then I'll never find the books that are worth my time to read.

My mum always says 'There is more than one way of skinning a cat'

Not entirely sure that a cat would agree to ANY way of being skinned....

Me - I live by...Make ONE person smile every day and your mission is accomplished. Something I set out to do many years ago. If I can make them laugh too, job done.
