Reminds me of an incident that has embedded itself firmly into my memory. I was walking through Union Square Park one beautiful sunny afternoon and saw this tubby, ruddy-faced bum sitting down on a bench. I was going in the direction towards the sunlight and caught him blowing his nose, but blowing it as in holding down one nostril and forcefully exhaling out the other, in one big honking fwoooosh. The sunlight caught this huge, dense cloud of expelled particles and other organic material rapidly expanding throughout the air. I reflexively held my breath and sped up in order to avoid walking through it. I don't know how the other people sitting around him escaped contagion, but I know I did.
