So Trump compromised top secret nuclear submarine capabilities

Donald Trump had dinner with Australian billionaire Anthony Pratt, and marveled about the incredible capabilities of the newest generation of American nuclear submarines. One small problem: the capabilities Trump described were top secret classified information.

Pratt, not knowing this, spread this information to his circle of friends, who in turn spread the information to their circles of friends, and before you know it, American intelligence agencies are picking this information up on surveillance intercepts in countries hostile to the United States.

As recently as 10 years ago, that'd be front page news and a major scandal (Reality Winner and David Petraeus ring any bells?). Trump has normalized the unauthorized leaks of highly sensitive information. Non-paywall NY Times Link

Criminal behavior has become normalized by the Right. Why would anyone want to share top secret information...other than ego?

Is this just Trump or does the rest of the GOP have the same contempt for the US military and government?

I think there's a few who do.

Then, currently, there are more supporting him who do by proxy - and don't care enough to push back. (Which is, frankly, even worse.)

I have been trying to understand what we are witnessing by reading the historical past. Could it be that being a politician is just too profitable?

I was recently talking with a friend about politicians being on the take. Big problem, of course.

But, for most of the younger ones, the ideological heroism associated with the role is dead. They need money, and they need it right away.

So, like teaching, take away the pay, and it's "um...so, for incredibly hard work, my reward is to be poor & treated like shit. I think I'll do something else instead." And there go your teachers and politicians.

The only person from whom I would like to hear their opinion today on this particular matter is Reality Winner.

The current theory is that Trump leaked nuclear secrets to Anthony Pratt to provide a smokescreen for the previous sale of those (and other) secrets to a hostile power. Since Trump is famously incurious about technical details, it's very odd that he would have the specifics our submarine capabilities on the tip of his tongue. Unless he was told to find that information out by his paying client.

I’d guess that those specifications were “cool” enough that he absorbed them so he could say something impressive.

interesting. I did a scan on "nuclear" and "sub" titles before posting. Must have missed your too-cute-by-half title. Sorry.
He uses ambiguous titles and then gets upset when non spazzy people make the same thread.

That kind of indiscretion has always existed. I think it is easy to make money...insane amounts of money...by being a politician. Legally. That is the problem. Money corrupts.

Teachers....I agree with you. But I think of a politician in the same ways as a drug dealer...only they aren't...at least those not from Texas...are dealing drugs. But they do turn a blind eye

Where are all the right wingers who were so appalled at "Buttery males."

Those right wingers are obviously more accepting of a certain ignorant, sexually predatory, racist, misogynistic, corrupt orange Cheese curdy male betraying the country - for “some” reason.

🤔

It ‘s probably because those right wingers have a lot in common with that ignorant, sexually predatory, racist, misogynistic, corrupt orange Cheese curdy male.

*nods*

It's okay as long as they think they're owning the libz.

There’s definitely that ^; but I get the impression that maaaaany right wingers truly identify with everything their disgusting orange role model exemplifies / embodies.

SAD!!!

My first response in hearing about this was that I doubted Trump could mentally correctly maintain such information--I was pretty sure no one gave him correct figures of any such thing while he was president. As this is spinning out, I'm hearing the same from others. That doesn't mean he shouldn't be put under the thumb and squashed for doing it.
