The tales that have come down from the US Marines who refitted in New Zealand between taking islands during WWII are still recounted in the Corps today. A hell of a lot of those Jarheads came home with NZed wives.

Tales of refits in Oz are only slightly less legendary, and there were a lot of Aussie lasses who came to the US with a Marine of her own.

Quite a number of years ago, a fellow NCO was telling me about his experiences in NZ. According to him, so many NZ men were out of the country trying to find work that the remaining women outnumbered men by a surprising margin. He said that it took some getting used to but there was much to be said for sitting on a bar stool in a local watering hole and suddenly find his ass getting fondled by an attractive lady! Yeah, if anything happens to HM, there's a plane ticket in my future.
