So many cameras and not a one caught the teen being shot in the back.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/...ting-paul-oneal-video-met-20160805-story.html

While the body camera attached to the uniform of that officer did not capture the fatal shot, a video shows that the officer's body camera was operating after the shooting and was still recording when police processing the scene asked him to walk through the backyard where he fired his gun and help them find the shell casings.

A sergeant asks whether the shots fired at the officer came from the rear of the yard, but the officer tells him the shots fired in his direction happened back on the street moments before the stolen car chase ended in a collision.

"No, the shots were coming at us when the car was coming at us," the officer says before describing how he ended up in the backyard chasing O'Neal on foot.

"I took off this way, he was coming over this way," he says, indicating different sections of the backyard. "When I approached this, I didn't know if he was armed or not."

As seconds pass in the backyard, the officer grows distraught and fears that it will be judged a bad shooting.

"Man, this is so f----- up, man. I don't want nothing to happen to that f------ guy, dude," he says to the sergeant. "The way s---'s going man, I'm going to be f------ crucified, bro."

At that point, the sergeant seeks to reassure the officer, citing the car theft as justification for what happened.

"Relax, he was in a hot car. Nothing to worry about."

The officer asks whether a weapon was recovered from the Jaguar.

"I'm not sure, but just relax," the sergeant says. "Don't worry about it. They were in a hot car."

Minutes before he tells the sergeant that the shots fired at him did not come from the back of the yard but from the earlier car chase in the street, the officer contradicts himself in an exchange with his own partner in video captured by another officer's body camera. When the partner asks if the officer fired at fellow officers, he responds:

"Dude, I heard shots. I don't f------ know, man. When he came out the yard, he shot at me," the officer says.

"Police are banned from shooting at a car if it is the only weapon used against them."

I am not defending lobbing hail mary rounds at a speeding car. Why should the cops not be allowed to return fire on a car trying to run them down?

A co-worker has an ex-boyfriend who's a cop. Last year, he was doing a traffic stop with another officer. The suspect lashed out at the first officer and became violent.

So, he turned off his camera and helped subdue the suspect with force. Dept was like, "Um, that's exactly what you don't do, idiot." (Let the camera show you were justified.)

It's a new world for law enforcement. These cameras are a godsend.

Meanwhile, depts all over the nation are having trouble recruiting new cops. All that hiring of bad cops has come back to bite them.

Because of assholes all over the net who will start threads about it and cry for justice. The cops are now afraid to actually do their jobs and defend themselves or anyone else who might get hurt.

Good job assholes.

The vid showed a chicago cop lobbing hail mary rounds at a car after it drove around him. There was a cop car with lights on just to the right of his target.

Proper protocol?

It's not return fire, nor was it running them down. The suspect did hit 3 police cars.

It's CPD policy I'm sure for good reason, but yeah I would be sympathetic if the jag was speeding straight for an officer.

running into several police cars to evade capture
is the use of a deadly weapon with potentially deadly force
and can justify the reciprocal use of such force by police.

why did the cam not work?
trumps that the kid tried to kill several cops?

there are facts
and
there are actual witnesses...

but....
let's kangaroo court this here

Because it's CPD policy, sporto. ;)

Except that it can't. Does anyone actually read the articles before offering their opinions?

Exactly, intentionally turning off your camera will never look good.

And, at the point the teen was shot in the back, he was out of the car and fleeing on foot, which is yet another time when police officers may not shot at someone.

He was a criminal who had attempted to injure/kill police by running them over not to mention endangering the public while he was fleeing in a stolen vehicle.

The officers did us all a favor by removing another criminal from society, especially a young one who now won't be able to pass on his defective genes.

As the saying goes, "Don't want to get shot by police? Don't be a criminal."

you are correct.

shooting at a moving car generally does not stop the car,
and if it injures/kills the driver
may put many others in danger...

i know this...

the driver though,
had exhibited deadly force and intent...
disregard for life and limb in this event

the fatal chase was on foot...
after the first deadly assaults took place

what happened - over that fence -
will be judged by people with all of the facts available...

i mistakenly thought this was about....
why the cam can not vindicate the poor "victim of police brutality"

excuse my misunderstanding....

most pds prohibit shooting at cars.
yes.

and yes... apparently no cam caught the fatal shots "in the back"

I agree most of this.

The footage shows officers responding to a report of a stolen Jaguar in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood. A black vehicle is seen speeding by two squad cars on the street of the suburban neighborhood as two officers open fire. Police said O'Neal crashed the Jaguar into two vehicles as they tried to stop him.

Police said O’Neal was unarmed when he was shot in the back by Chicago police officers on July 28.

And if the dead felon wasn't conveniently black, Alpobaloney the progressive piece of socialist shit wouldn't post a single word about this case.

They really just need to stop policing.....just let them run wild and do whatever they want. ;) Shit hole hoods and uppity liberal developments need to not be policed at all.

He was a criminal who had attempted to injure/kill police by running them over not to mention endangering the public while he was fleeing in a stolen vehicle.

But he was black so the cops are racist. The fact that he was charging an officer in a stolen car is irrelevant, this is clearly a case of cops just shooting black guys for no reason other than their skin color.

Did he run over a police officer?

Looks very obviously like he tried to in the video.

From what I can gather, the police were shooting at him before he ran head on into a police car.

Maybe he should stop trying to run them over with the stolen car.

Black white yellow poor rich. Doesn't matter.

Once he put his dickskinners on a car that wasn't his and aimed it at cops....

The end result of pink mist most was deserved.

When did the whole world turn in to a bunch of fucking pussies?

Hilarious thread.

Another one of those: "Yeah, he was in a stolen car, resisting arrest, and it's only a miracle he didn't kill an officer or an innocent bystander.....but....but.....he's a victim!!"

Get the fuck out of here.

Good riddance, kid.

I always thought one of you to be somewhat reasonable.

After he exited car and fled on foot he became unarmed and the cops should not have shot him. Blazing away in a residential neighbourhood is stupid. Cops are notoriously bad shots. Definite danger to local civilians.
