Byers 'smear' adviser apolgises for e-mail

Dan Corry, the former Department of Transport special adviser, today apologised "unreservedly" for sending e-mails probing the political affiliations of Paddington rail crash survivor Pam Warren and her train safety pressure group.

Mr Corry said that he was wrong to send the e-mails to Labour HQ asking whether any members of the Paddington Survivors Group were Tories. "It was wrong of me to send these e-mails. I would like to apologise unreservedly to the Paddington Survivors Group, Pam Warren, the relatives involved and to anybody who has taken offence at this," said Mr Corry in a statement released on his behalf by the Labour Party.

Mr Corry is in Japan for England’s World Cup clash with Argentina.

The Labour Party had their chance to get rid of Blair about a decade ago when their conference (correctly !) voted to keep Clause 4. Blair spent the next year going around the country blackmailing party members and using the most horrendous bully-boy tactics imaginable - low and behold the next conference voted to ditch clause 4 and remove any vestiges of socialism the party had.

If members had stood up to him back then, things could be a lot different now. Contrary to the spin-doctors rumours, Labour didnt win because of their "newness" in 1997 - the Tories had run out of steam - if Labour had gotten themselves a truely left-wing shadow cabinet then, that group would have become the cabinet.....

Th only scandal was that Byer's office leaked like a sieve.

Someone on his staff was checking up, who was behind this new rail "pressure group". Not very politically correct, but necessary background research. An office rival told the papers on him.

It seems like Byers went because he couldnt run his own office rather than any transport reason.
