Snowpocalpyse 2010

More snow this weekend! Are you kidding me?!

Okay, so I'm not getting as much as you DC folks but COME ON!

My McD's is in the same parking lot as a grocery store and that is making for some strange business. Either we're dead because no one is on the roads, or we're busy as hell because the report of more snow just broke out and everyone suddenly has to have bread eggs and milk.

If I had to chose, I'd be under a constant rush, it makes the day go by so much faster. As it is I've been so bored that I've personally got out scrubbing tools and did some much needed under the counter scrubbing.

Mmmmmm PIZZA. I think it's perfectly okay to get ticked about that. Pizza is goooood.

Wife went to work yesterday, and brought Chinese food home because I begged. Not because I desperately need it, but because I can't get it delivered and therefore I want it!

that's exactly the reason i wanted the pizza! lol. i had this great idea to use my allowance on getting some pizza delivered yesterday lunchtime, before round 2 of the storm kicked in. yeah it was a long shot, but i had to try! lol so of course the pizza place said heck no we aren't delivering, and we drove out there around 5 pm. it's just a couple of miles down the road, but it was an absolute horror story getting there. we actually had to run up onto a huge snow drift in the median to avoid hitting a car in front of us at the stop light. it was like being in a movie..

so we're waiting inside the pizza place, and there are a handful of folks coming in just like us, to order some pizza to stockpile for the storm ahead. one lady ordered at least 6 pizzas and two of those mysterious pasta meals. there were exactly 2 employees there...a cook and a cashier. there was a family (mom, dad, three little kids) sitting at a booth which i thought was kinda odd. all of a sudden the mom gets up in a huff and says to the cashier, "we've been waiting! we just can't wait any longer!" and they put on their coats and left. the cashier, a 50s-ish black guy, didn't even look her way...just rolled his eyes at the customer in front of him, lol.

who in the heck wants to sit down for a family meal at the pizza spot right before a frickin blizzard??

Wow, cranky much?! You'd think she'd be grateful that somebody else was cooking her dinner! I have not had those pastas, they don't have any vegetarian ones. I have had the pasta in a bread bowl from the other place though, it's kind of cool because you can add in pizza toppings like mushrooms or sausage or whatever you like.

So glad you guys made it back okay though, it's very dangerous driving around! Today is even worse of course. It's just insane. Gallaudet University just closed for the fourth day in a row. So did the federal government.

Not me. I guess they wanted to get out of the house for a bit.

I don't mind the snow or the weather, except that I do need to get into the office at some point, and I'm not so great with the indoor craft activities.

And really, what can he do? He can't make their food come any faster. HE has to stay at work, he doesn't get to waltz off and go home like she does.

We're getting a lot of those too.

We aren't getting a lot of orders, but we are getting huge orders. Like some one ordered 22 doubles in one order, that was after the car infront of them ordered 10 doubles and 6 meals, and before the car with 4 kid meals and 5 sandwhiches. And me in the store with 4 crew people. Then they get pissy because it takes longer than 90 seconds to make all of this.

This storm may end up containing the day I finally tell one of these people to fuck off and quit my job.

Daddy just ate the last slice of pizza (which we braved the roads to go out and get yesterday, and which he claimed he did not want, would just be for me, etc.). i'm kinda ticked. this storm is starting to effect the subbie in me.

(don't tell him tho:eek:)

A flaw in perfect subbieness!!

You better erase it quick.

Ok so this storm has gone too far, I propose we shoot dust into the clouds so they don't make it too DC.

It's non profit I swear, just out of the goodness of somebodys heart.

It's official. This is the snowiest winter EVER.

1898-99: 54.4" at National Airport
2009-10: 54.9" as of 2pm today (more tonight and even more Monday)

It's so weird. Becuase I've lived places where those numbers don't qualify for the snowiest WEEK ever. And yet here I am, trapped in the house becuase of too much snow.

I keep thinking I'll just walk somewhere. But to do that would require walking in the street, and I'd get hit. Not gonna happen.

exactly, plus he was just a cashier anyway. as we were leaving, a teenage girl came in who i assume was the waitress. clearly, she had some difficulty getting there. heck, we had difficulty just driving into the parking lot of the place, it was far from cleared out. so again, the idea of expecting typical restaurant-style service in an extreme weather situation like this...really odd, not to mention rather stupid.

Daddy's parents have been stuck inside their home since the snowstorm first began. because they live in an older neighborhood where the streets are more narrow, cars must be cleared from both sides of the street in order for plowtrucks to get through. some stubborn/idiotic people have refused to move their vehicles, so they still have 40"+ on their street and on the neighboring streets. who knows when they'll get out. :( at least they have plenty of food.

oh, and i've been walking on the street like crazy, right down the middle. it's fun, except when you slip on ice and land on your butt.

don't worry, the cars can't move fast enough to surprise you and run you over.

Yikes, really? We have a lot of cars here, I dunno!

The day laborers are back though, they're digging my car out right now. I'm going to see if I can get anywhere...I am supposed to be in Baltimore by Friday night, we'll see if that happens!

Sigh.

2" in Dallas, it's still snowing with a total of 3-5" predicted. The streets are slushy with a hard freeze overnight. Blech.

I know that's *nothing* for most of y'all, but this is Dallas - we do not do this white stuff around here well, at all.

I saw your post before you edited, CM, and was mighty confused! Yeah, 3-5" is a lot for you. It's not supposed to snow in Texas!

Yay typos!

Current official reading is 4.5" and it's still snowing steadily; the winter weather advisory will be up until midnight. :(

Mostly that's true, but I love the handful of crazies who are driving their rinky dink teeny cars like a bat out of hell. Death wish much?

People in the UK are not prepared for snow either..

We had less than a foot here about a month ago and everything stopped. It was silly how the country couldn't cope. Plus people went panic shopping and stocked up on bread and milk and it was sold out everywhere! Weirdo's!

I think I broke my foot. This falls under the category of Not Funny. There's a single step down into our living room, and I stepped down it, and found myself going to the ground. I heard a snap, too. This does not go well with snow. Or driving.

Snow. In Dallas.

The fuck?

And a hard freeze of slush is never good, no matter where you are. Some locales will handle it better, but the hard freeze is nasty because idiots think they can drive on it.

!! !!

I hope you're okay. Any chance of getting to a doctor?

Nope. I have frozen peas on it now, I'm keeping it elevated. I fall pretty often, well, more than most people. Usually I'm okay shortly after, but it's been what, four hours now? At least? And I still can't use it. I'd think this was just an exceptionally bad twist, but that snap noise during the fall is really weighing on my mind.

No way to get anywhere. Well, maybe when the wife gets home, I can get some support to hop through the snow and pick up a ride somehow. I'm going to wait though, partly because it's now dark (fall danger x 2) and partly because it may be okay in the morning if I treat it right.

Wishful thinking aside, as soon as you can get to a hospital, I highly recommend you do so.

Obviously, if it's unsafe to go alone, it's not worth the risk, but wishful thinking isn't going to make it better. And I say this as someone who spent a full day ignoring a broken bone in the hopes that it wasn't that bad.

When I was a kid, I fell out of a tree and broke my wrist. I whined about it all through dinner, and my mom said "no, no, you're fine, stop complaining." Finally, to shut me up, she took me to the doctor. They did an x-ray, and ta-da, broken wrist! After that, she took me to the doctor anytime I had a boo-boo. Since then, I have gone the opposite way. I fall down at least once every couple of weeks, which is more than most people I know. If I went to the doctor every time, I'd be broke.

But yes, I will go to a hospital if it doesn't get better. Unfortunately, there's about 3 ft of snow on the ground right now, so it's not a matter of 10 ft from my front door to my car, and then off we go.

A friend of mine in California said "I need to feel some hate right now. East Coast friends: It's 68 degrees and sunny." I unleashed the hate. :)
