Few people take Snopes seriously and it’s not hard to understand why. They issued this release out of the blue on Thursday, 7 years after the fake news story first came out. Too funny.

Claim:
On Aug. 15, 2017, then-President Donald Trump called neo-Nazis and white supremacists who attended the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, "very fine people."

Rating:
False.

Since even you say they're not to be taken seriously, are you taking it seriously here when it's what you want to believe?

(Oh, and it's true Trump did say, "But you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides." And even this link acknowledges he was probably wrong about that - there is no evidence that there were non-bigots marching alongside the bigots.)

I watched what he said live.

Don't care what fact checkers say.
We all have seen the video clips and quotes. We all can interpret Trump’s words anyway we choose. What this release by Snopes illustrates is that self-proclaimed “fact checkers” should not be considered authoritative, unbiased, or competent. Snopes is among the most laughable but they are not alone.

All of which is neither here nor there with respect to whether or not Trump argued that there were good people on both sides in Charlottesville - which he did. That he also denounced white supremacists is beside the point.

So in reality, the thread is about snopes and not about anything 45 said.

Probably need to change the title.

Fyi - He said there were "very fine people on both sides"

🙄

So today’s GASLIGHTING effort from BabyBoobs involves sowing doubt and mistrust in independent fact-checkers. (must have been in the RWCJ’s morning talking points.)

😑

Odd that BabyBoobs would use an example involving a technically ACCURATE fact check from Snopes (the corrupt orange traitor did not DIRECTLY refer to neo-Nazis and white supremacists as “very fine people”) to GASLIGHT people about the trustworthiness of independent fact-checkers.

🤔

We rate BabyBoobs’ attempt at GASLIGHTING: An EPIC FAIL.

Deplorables: Snopes is nothing more than a left-wing propaganda machine that lies 100% of the time. You are an idiot if you trust them.

Also Deplorables: ...but, um, Snopes is telling the truth about this. Yeah.

🤣

Occam's Razor, buddy. Occam's Razor.

Trump sure as hell wasn't talking about Democrats and Republicans.

Yes, it’s about Snopes. As YD895 pointed out, Trump denounced the white supremacists.

In a news conference after the rally protesting the planned removal of a Confederate statue, Trump did say there were "very fine people on both sides," referring to the protesters and the counterprotesters. He said in the same statement he wasn't talking about neo-Nazis and white nationalists, who he said should be "condemned totally."

LOL assuming that the statement that he condemns them "totally" (heh, or even partially for that matter) is a stretch. Especially given his embrace of white nationalists.

He can say it all day long. Is it believable? Frankly, no.

Especially given his history of racism.

Fact #1: Trump's foremost mentor, Roy Cohn, used epithets like "n****r", "f*g" and "s***" all the time. He was racist as hell.

Fact #2: Trump's second-most mentor, William Levitt, put more effort into keeping African Americans from accumulating wealth than almost any human being on the planet.

Fact #3: If any single Liberal leader had these two as mentors, Deplorables would be reminding us about it every hour, every day. So their mention here is fair game.

The more you know! 😎

did snopes make this claim? did they verify it was "true" at the time?

Wow! Hello arm band wearer!

Great General? Losing General. Thought he didn’t like losers. But when they are racists he loves them!

They are only his words… they are so terrible…

Poor losers.

Let me see if I understand this. You say Snopes is laughable, meaning incompetent, biased, and unauthoritative. But you cite their finding that the Trump quote is false. So, by your own logic, their finding must also be untrustworthy, laughable even. Which means that the claim must be true.

Quad erat demonstatum.

Of course it was false. I shared it because it took Snopes 7 years to figure it out.

BabyBoobs apparently "thinks" that claims relating to a presidential candidate’s PAST statements, which are resurfaced during the CURRENT political campaign season, aren’t worthy of fact-checking.

The simpler explanation is they knew then and didn't care, but later had personnel changes and/or policy changes to abandon partisan loyalties, cut losses, or try to regain credibility as a fact checking site.
