smell

I have noticed a weird smell... down there. mostly when its almost time for my period, its like an ammonia smell.
can anyone tell me what this is?
not a fishy smell, i have no green discharge... just an ammonia smell with a normal discharge. is this normal?

It could be bacterial vaginosis/vaginitis. You don't have to have all the symptoms, but one of them is the ammonia odor. It's less irritating than a yeast infection, and sometimes, it doesn't even itch, but it should be treated with medication.

Make an appointment at your OBGYN and run a google search on vaginitis.

Yep,most probably bacterial vaginosis.

The smell is due to the altered pH of the vagina. The vagina usuall contain lactobacilli which form lactic acid & keep the vaginal pH low,thus preventing colonisation of unwanted bacteria. If u can get ur hands on some Metronidazole antibiotic it'll help. 400mg twice a day
