I admit I haven't read it. The original cringe-worthy spelling put me off, and the subject matter didn't appeal. I mean, by definition, if someone breaks a contract, the deal is off.

Why get a DOM
The Document Object Model isn't really necessary for straight HTML, and with the advent of HTML-5, I suppose you can kind of do without it. But the minute you need to drop down to Java-Script (y'know, the J in AJAX?) it sort of becomes essential.
