Nobody knows duh trubble I seed, nobody knows my sorrow.

The core problem with slave memoirs is: Slaves were expensive to buy and expensive to keep.

A $1000 slave cost about 8 times the prevailing wage back then. Plus you hadda take care of them for the 8 years it took to recoup the initial cost. And if the cotton crop was ruined slaves still hadda eat. Beating slaves was no more sane than beating your car or lawn mower or bulldozer. They cant work if theyre hurt or damaged. Most of these slave brutality tales are pretend.

Now! Slaves were beaten! No question about it.

If a slave raped or committed arson or killed animals or maimed another slave, they were beaten. Or sold. Or transported to a sugarcane plantation where Indians, alligators, and diseases were fatal.

Whats more interesting than the bullshit memoirs is the reality of Lincolns treatment of slaves. He had the Union cavalry kill them along with other livestock, or he loaded them on ships for sale in Central America or he forced them to labor for the army (they couldn't quit).

Slaves were also difficult to manage, so slave owners hired sociopathic landless white men who maintained discipline through whippings, beatings and branding. The slave owner held his overseer in lower esteem than the slaves.

After the end of slavery, these men and their descendants became apologists who went on to claim slavery wasn't that bad because slaves were too valuable to risk injury through harsh punishments.

1. Not a word of this is true.

2. If the memoirs are "bullshit" why don't you become a slave and see how easy it is/was?

How would you get more work out of someone who is not paid and cannot quit?

Now, Now JBJ U shouldn't doubt the all-knowing Dan.......Besides, common sense is for racists

You control the pussy supply.

Actually what they did was offer cash incentives over and above the expected yield. A few slaves bought their freedom with the money they made. Many planters belonged to the Fellenbarger System, I think it was called. What that was, was a rent to buy program where slaves were trained to operate businesses, set up in business, and the planter took a slice of the profits the slave made. One of my ancestors built saw mills. brick kilns, construction companies, etc. with slave-owners running the business.

Yeah, sure.

Slavery was expensive so we should feel sorry for slave owners.

What's next: "She was asking for it" is a legal rape defense?

Do your own research. Then explain howcome anyone beats slaves so they cant work and make you money. It makes as much sense as destroying your home if the power goes off in a storm. I say it didn't happen unless a slave committed a capital felony.

There's some truth to the idea that cutting off pussy helped many young men get their minds right about work.

All your posts come down to this":

"I'm an old white man and get off my lawn! I'm white, which makes me right!"

People in 1862 rushed off to places like New Orleans threw down $1116 (25,298.28 in today's dollar) on average to buy a slave in the currency of the day and then took him home and beat the shit out of him right? Isn't that what you do when you go to the store and spend $25298.28, bring it home and fuck it all up? Or drive it into a wall?:D

See table II:

Hee Hee

That's what I mean. Almost anyone would pay 25K to fuck themselves.

The real horror was after emancipation when the military ruled the South and created the convict lease system. But no one ever talks about it.

And that 1862 price was actually falling in expectation of the Civil War. Nobody ever talks about how many black folks fought on the Southern side either. Kinda fucks up the popular narrative.:D

Sure. Yuh gotta wonder howcome all the slaves didn't go North or to Union enclaves along the Southern Coast during the war. They didn't cuz they knew Lincoln was sending them to Central America to sell.

Slavery is evil.

If you don't know what evil is and you claim to be a Christian, you're -- I don't know what word to use for you.

Nobody in this world has a right to enslave another. Not you, not some ancient planter, not some criminal banker, not some warlord, not some police state tyrant, not anyone.

You're brain is broken. You don't know what freedom is.

Remember the Emancipation Proclamation only freed those slaves below the Mason/Dixon line.

In reality it freed none. It freed none because Dred Scott was still the law until the 13th Amendment was ratified.

The whole Civil War is interesting. Lincoln argued that states couldn't secede, then the Supreme Court ruled that the CSA was a co-belligerent of the war, that is, a war power NOT rebels. THAT set up recognition by Britain and France. They wouldn't aid the CSA if it was a mere rebellion. In fact Lincoln affirmed secession with the Emancipation Proclamation by using a law that allows forfeiture of property confiscated from co-belligerants. Then the ratification of the 14th Amendment excluded the former CSA from the vote as if it was a foreign power conquered by the USA. Which it was.

So, States can secede from the Union.
