I know that Lit tends to have a more mature crowd than the folks I run with (ranges from 16 to 25).. So maybe not everyone here will know what I'm talking about, but today, for about the thousandth time I heard this:

"Dude, that band sucks, they're way too old."

... Since when did music have an expiration date? Some of my favorite music originally came out on eight track and LP. Can someone please explain to me why a band "sucks" after more than a year? Please?? Mor is REAAAL confused and frustrated on this!

I think it's just your friends, I'm sitting here listening to The Presidents of the Unites States of America and I think they are just as good as ever.

I dunno, I went to high schools in three different states and I heard it in all of them... ::shrug:: If it's just local to this area, I'm gonna hafta move before I flip out on one of these fools and do something regrettable

I guess some bands you do get sick of hearing but that's usually because you hear it everywhere you go. But a lot of old bands are like classics. I mean you'll never hear someone say Sublime sucks and if you ever do, kill them.

:D

LOL@Mellon Collie:)

wow now i really feel old:) have they broken up and i don't know? i just thought they'd got real quiet..lol
** sings..hmm..peaches come in can..**millions of peaches, peaches for me**
the spider dune buggy song rocks too:)

err moridin, she's right..it's your friends..liking music because it's released before or after a certain time, is just as wanky as can be..i like eighties pop..but not cause it's from the eighties, per se

because i like the sounds..eg i love an aussie band who've just broken up**SOB** called the mavis's..some of their stuff is very eighties pop..lots of synth, breathy romantic vocals, and rocking drumm, bass lines:)

the only reason to like or dislike a band or genre/style..is the way it sounds, inmho:)

I've already had to hide three bodies for that exact reason Mellon

I'm guessing you're a Pumpkins fan?

Yeah, a really big fan. I was so lucky I got to see their last show in Chicago. My friend got the tickets, he still refuses to tell me how much they were.

And Zoe, I believe the lead singer overdosed but don't quote me on that.

I seem to remember them just breaking up Mellon

Lump, definitely Lump ::can summon that entire song to play through his head at will::

You definitely have good music taste Mellon, SP, Sublime, and PoUSA... Rock on!

There is music.

There is pop culture.

Your friends are confusing the two.

::sighs and nods::

You're right mouse. You shouldn't listen to music because it's "cool". You should listen to music because it's what you like, because it gives you feelings and you enjoy it.
