How to Stop GIF Animation

I must admit that I have fun making animated GIFs, including my current Holiday AV.

I have learned that animated GIFs can cause problems for people with Epilepsy. For some other people, animated GIFs are just annoying.

There is help.

This article has information about stopping animation on web pages. There is a lot of information there, maybe too much for most people.

There is a fairly easy solution, depending upon which browser you use.

Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE) - Wait for the web page to fully load. Then press the Esc key. All animated GIFs should stop. Press Esc again to restart the GIFs.

Firefox - Go to the Add-Ons Manager, search for "Toggle animated GIFs". You should find an available Add-On to install. Once installed, you have options to what key(s) stop GIFs. (Default is Ctrl+C but I changed my option to the Esc key). Use by allowing a web page to fully load and then pressing the disable key(s).

Chrome - Go to the Extensions page (Tools/Extension) and click link at the bottom of the page to "Get More Extensions". Search for "Stop Animations" and install this extension. Use by allowing a web page to fully load and then pressing the Esc key.

These methods are easy to use and quite effective. I have tested all three.
