Ok this is so weird,

Whenever I get prescribed a medication for pain or insomnia I end up with the same side effect; high sex drive, last summer I hurt my back and my doctor gave me mucle relaxant I would take one and 30 minutes later I was relaxed yes but all I could think of was sex... same with codeine.

Now my Doc prescribed me a pill to sleep (restoril) I seem to get the same thing, isn't supposed to make you sleepy?

I remember having the same problem in high school when I was smoking pot.

I have to say though that alcohol doesn't affect me that way.

I am not saying its a bad thing but it is sometime quite inconvenient....

anybody have any ideas on why this would occur?

Wow! How cool is that! I suppose if it led to doing things you didn't intend to do it would be a problem. They can lead to disinhibition. Sometimes there is some libido change but usually the other way - decreased.

lol Nipplemuncher that is usually what happens, except I don't want it only once.... I want it until I pass out...... or if I don't take the pill I have sex and then can't seem to sleep after, so take a pill and then well I want it again....
kind of a never ending cycle....

and what happens when I don't have hubby at home because he has courses until 11 p.m. or he's at work? masturbation seem to do nothing but make me want it even more. ( I literally turn into a nymphomaniac!)

Mitchmo, never made me do anything I didn't want to do because I am not out of it , I just get extremely horny! My husband thinks its funny but gets a bit tired and annoyed and told me to never do esctasy, lol No Kidding, that would be scary!

Tell you what, just for you, I'm willing to be your venting outlet. ;):rose:

I wish I had a serious answer to your problem. About the only thing I can think of would be to consult with your doctor about the effects that meds seem to have. It could be an allergic reaction of sorts, which finding the right type and dosage of medication could take care of. Beyond that, put hubby on speed dial and tell him he needs to drop what he's doing and get home because you need the homeopathic remedy that only he can provide. If that doesn't work out, call me.;):D:rose:

Wow, so that is what is causing my problem....been taking Restoril a few times a week for about a year since I moved.
Guess you aren't the only one Luna...

Hey, NM....can you be on call for both of us???

 allergic reaction ! lol I'll take that anytime, better than an anaphylactic shock!!!

NM you'd be on call for me huh!;)

NomadLady: lol so I guess IT IS a side effect not just me having a weird reaction

Well I hadn't thought that much about it since I was also doing some hormone replacement for while but that has been over for months now and that "side effect" seems as strong as ever....;)

Surely if you need the medication then you just have to put up with the side effects

It looks like euphoria occurs in a very small (<2) percentage of the population taking tamazepam, so it could be related to that. Maybe you're particularly prone to feeling euphoria with these different substances, and your brain somehow interprets either that, or the relaxing effects, as a sexual stimulant.

Have you tried non-benzo sleep meds such as Ambien? If not, maybe your doc can give you a sample or small script to try out, though they often come with their own side effects.

You also could consider cutting down the dose. Or take Erika's suggestion and try a different class of sleep meds.

I've taken that same medication for sleep and I haven't had your issue.

Unrelated, but somewhat odd?: Didn't you say in your last thread that you were physically separated from your husband? I'm not sure I'd be so quick to blame the temazepam.

Ask your doctor if you can take a low dose of Amitriptyline instead. At only 10mg it acts like a muscle relaxant and helps you sleep. I take it for night time leg cramps. It relaxes me enough to sleep very well. And it's not additive at all at that dose.

I recently adjusted my meds over the summer and the new meds i am on make me crazy horny. I have actually been contemplating switching off the new meds because my drive is "through the roof* (LOL, more than usual). All i ever think about is sex and i need to play many times a day. According to the literature, an increase in drive occurrs in less than 1% of the population on this me Hubby loves it (though he doesn't necessarily help me with my intense ...um .... need).

true, I left the house for a few days, and he was looking for an apartment but over the last week we have been working through things and it is getting better... still lots of work ahead but we are really going in the right direction.

Erica, I'll ask my doc at my next apointment.

Lilly, I know what you mean its not like he's complaining!

Dark Bee LOL!

I don't know why you've got those side effects. Lord knows different drugs have different impacts on people. I just wish you were my neighbor:)

Ambien works by shutting down your higher brain functions. All these people who claim to do weird shit while taking it...it's true. It really let's your subconscious take over, which can lead to a manifestation of fears or instinctive behavior.

Me personally, it shuts down my tact filter. When I was taking it I had to go to bed and not have conversations with my wife, or I'd get myself in trouble. I also I apparently become a sleep-fucker. She told me she really didn't have any complaints except that I seemed obsessed with her ass. Well what can I say, she's got a nice butt. I just wish I could remember if it was good for me.

my doctor is not a fan of Ambien or lunesta alike because he believes sleep medication should not be taken on a regular basis as it is addictive no matter what the manufacturer claims he was more inclined in helping me get better sleep hygene ( a healthy relaxing environment and routine before bedtime)

Bless his ethical ass. Nice to hear of a GP not in the pocket of the pharma industry.

that is why I chose him as my GP, meds aren't always the answer and he isn't scared to try something different to avoid the use of pharmaceuticals.
