Dick’s Sporting Goods Admits Suffering Gun Policy Backlash As Sales Slide

Via Washington Examiner:

Sales at Dick’s Sporting Goods dropped in the past three months amid backlash against tighter gun-sale restrictions following a mass killing early this year at a Florida high school.

Revenue dipped 4.5 percent to $1.86 billion amid challenges in the company’s hunting business during the quarter through Nov. 3. Sales at stores open at least 12 months – a key metric for the retail industry – fell 6.1 percent compared to the prior year

Siding with the left in a free society can be detrimental to one's economic health.

I can understand where Reps. are coming from on almost everything,

but their stance on guns is something that I could never get my head around.

You have to be an American to understand our history. The left indoctrinates our children against their heritage so many are left in the dark about the importance of guns to Americans in our society. It is the primary tool we used to found this country, establish law and order, domesticate Europe, and hold at bay those who war against our freedom.

Yes, that's perhaps the first explanation that makes sense to me, as opposed to the "Freedom/ Totalitarianism/ First on Second Amendment rights" stuff.

The thing that bothers and baffles me, too mostly about the Left is not their anti-gun stance (which I share) but their resentment of traditions.

Most people view traditions as either part of a country's cultural heritage (you don't piss on your ancestors, even if you don't practice traditions). Or -particularly for those who've been under occupation- the glue that unites and increases people's and a country's resilience.

I hope you realize that the "viewpoint" you say you share, isn't really a "viewpoint". It's a projection.

You say you share the "viewpoint" that guns are bad. Yet you have no problem with the military and the police having guns. Those guns are ok according to the "viewpoint".

So, what is really being said is that you object to ME having a gun. And, since guns aren't the problem (because there's no difference between MY guns and those kept by the police and military) the only remaining part of the "viewpoint" is "me".

Thus, the "viewpoint" is that you share a distrust in ME. Which is a projection, not a viewpoint. And, since you don't know me, it's irrational.

I'm not saying disarm people, because that measure would bring with it other catastrophic consequences.

But all those mass shootings, HisArpy... Basically any disgruntled or antisocial man can buy a gun and shoot people as they please.

Something drastic needs to be done Now. But what?
It's very complicated. But also frustrating for those who've lost or stand to lose family.

It's not that complicated.

The left wants to destroy everything that make this country unique...in so much as they want to make the whole world the same in subjugation to whatever their Dogma happens to be at the moment.

They do not like us and guns because we are a danger to them having their way with the Country.

Why Drastic?

Something Drastic was NOT done to cause this situation.

The worlds problems will NOT be solved by taking up all of our guns and fucking up the place because of "Radical Climate change".

People will still kill people and the world will still get hotter no matter what we do.

Of the millions and millions of people killed in the twentieth century how many were armed?

Damned small percent I will bet.

Take away the number of people in the armed forces in the world and I think you will find NOT being armed is dangerous!

Fixing it where dangerous people to the public at large and family probably is common ground for reasonable people if not taken too far.

First of all, any "disgruntled or antisocial man" excludes women. There's no "rule" which says a woman can't be a criminal. So your thinking on this isn't broad enough and that shows a bias which affects the conclusions you reach.

From there; basically, any disgruntled person can run over pedestrians with a rental truck. Or build a bomb from fertilizer. Or make Ricin powder and mail it. So why are guns, and only guns, the target of the crusade? You don't think "terrorist" when you see someone driving a car, yet automobiles account for the #3 highest cause of death/injury in the US every year. Way more than guns but less than heart disease and cancer.

https://www.healthline.com/health/leading-causes-of-death#heart-disease

So why aren't you advocating car confiscations and a mandatory health and fitness regimen for everyone? Because that doesn't get any political traction, that's why. People aren't afraid of cars because they're used to being around cars. They're afraid of guns because they aren't around them and they're TOLD they're bad. Building a narrative based on fear isn't rational. Nor is it a winning narrative.

The way most gun owners see it, THE PROBLEM isn't the "weapon" used, it's the person who uses it. Yet, for some reason, if the person votes D, he's ok and it's the R's who want to protect themselves from the mental instability of those D-voters are the ones the D's point fingers at and proclaim to be the "real" problem.

You have to stop sucking up the kool aid that you're being given and start thinking for yourself. Until you do, you're nothing but a D lemming doing what you're told and thinking it's the best option for you and me.

I prefer to determine what's best for me. I prefer to be the one left standing when the police arrive so I can point to the dead bad guy and then hug my family and not their caskets.

Courage isn't found in a gun. It's found when you stand up to oppression. Whether that be facing off against a bad guy with a gun or a law designed to take what's yours by legislative force.
