Should the Playground be made a part of the Personals forum again?

It has been awhile now since the Playground was created by Laurel. Originally, all the Playground-ground type posts mixed inbetween personal ads. My question for you is:

Do you like the Playground the way it is? Or would you approve the elimination of the separate sub-forum with all the Playground posts being combined into the personal ads as they were originally?

Please comment on your choice.


Note: Laurel is NOT considering doing this. It is just a poll.

Because if you read what the sticky note says at the top of the personal board, it is for just that. Personal ads only.

The playground was created because people didn't want to have to sort thru the threads just to find the personal ads. The general board is a little to rough for some people so they use the playground instead.

The seperation of the two is a good thing but I don't agree with some of the moves that were made.

In particular I speak of the GA directory. That thread does contain personal ads for people in GA, yes there is idle chatter mixed in as well but the core is the personal ads for people in one geographic area. Because of this move there is now 2 GA directories on the Playground. This is the second time this has been done.

When the two were in one place the personal ads quickly got lost behind the more popular threads which are now the Playground threads. The people posting personal ads need the place to have their information seen without it being lost.

I agree with Native Alien. The playground has evolved into its own community. There are so many threads on the playground now, it's too time consuming to sort through all of them. If they were mixed back into the personals, it would be impossible.
I never venture into the general board. I find it "generally" far too serious, far too many of the posters far too arrogant, and just plain repulsive.
I come to Lit only for the stories and the community of the playground. One where almost everyone is not only civil, but friendly... a nice escape from reality.
The playground is nearly perfect as is.
I wouldn't change a thing.

The Playground and the Personal Board have been running as separate boards for some time now, and each should have it's own clearly defined identity. But taking a peek at the Personal Board a minute ago, I see that quite a few threads have been moved to other boards.

It seems that people are still unsure where they should be posting, and for what reason/purpose.

In my opinion, splitting the two boards hasn't been a major success, and perhaps should be amalgamated again. The Playground only has 10 pages... it's not a big board.

Georgia Girl, it is the idle chatter that gets it moved. If a thread were started that contained ONLY personal ads from Georgia, and stated that in the title then it would be left there on the personals. But when you have a limited amount of space and then you get a thread that is more "idle chatter" than personal ads it has to be moved.

My suggestion would be to place a personal and in the personal ad direct people to the other thread on the playground with link. That would accomplish both purposes and it would leave the Personal ad on the personals.

I voted no for the same reason as some of the others. It was very easy for the threads that are now in the Playground to get lost in the personals and vice versa.

Perhaps a way to more clearly define some of the boards, would be to put all 'locality threads'.... ie Florida, UK, Aussies and the Kiwi thread on GB onto one board, and then combine what is left of the Playground with Personals.

There are a LOT of threads that are locality based.

The thing is that the Personal board has over 25 pages to it. I would suggest doing the locality threads on the Playground. Place an ad on the Personals, let people post only personal ads on that thread and then have a locale thread on the playground linked to the Locality thread on the Personals.

Since I usually don't post to either, can I ask a question to clarify?Are there threads from the personal ads that end up being chit chat and not just personal ads which then get moved to the Playground? Is that how there are now two Georgia threads at the Playground?

In that case, I think comments in the personal ads with a link to where the chit chat can be found in the Playground would work. Maybe. I know at the general board it is hard to keep threads "on topic" and we don't usually even try.

The general board people have a few things they find to be "generally" true about the Playground postings, too. But in the end, I think we are all just glad that we have boards available which match are particular needs for posting. I think few people would suggest combining the general board and the Playground since either side would scream bloody murder!

Yes Cheyenne, that is exactly the process that was started this morning. The threads started as personal ads and then became "chit chat" threads. People were complaining about it. They would post a personal and then it would get shoved to the back pages.

Another complaint was that people were having to dig thru the threads to find the actual ads.

Cheyenne, I believe it was over on one of the BDSM boards a week or so ago WriterDom started a thread about the fact that people were actually having "conversations" on the personals board.

My question is if you place a personal ad and a few people respond to it has it not then become chit chat ..... when is the line drawn?

At first I was against the seperation but I now like it very much...

The personals to me is a place were a individual can ask a question or seek personal needs and have it responded too! It is also a media for informational purposes. In either a positive or negative manner.

The playground to me is a area were people can go and actually relax with ol'e and new friends. Were small groups of good friends meet and strengthen there friendships. I have actually meet many of these great people via cook outs I've thrown and love them to death. They are extentions of my really family.....

Like Georgia Girl I don't always agree when threads are moved. I seen some interesting threads dye because of the move... But, GOD being a mediator of a threads has to be a incredibley difficult job and I thing there doing a hell of great job....

I voted no cause I like the way things are now.The playground is really kind of like the general board with alittle bit of a friendlier tone too it.If all the personals were added in then they may not get many responses due to all the threads that are hit so much on the playground....But just my opinion.

DAM and I did want so much to get your mocassions. I know how comfortable they must be....

I think a lot of the problem is that people in general need to think a little more BEFORE they start a thread to were it really belongs.

If my needs were immediate such as looking for a young ladys attention RIGHT NOW! I would post it on the personels. I am not looking for on going chitchat I have a immediate need to be meet......

If I was looking to get my heart torn out and my ass kicked at the same time I'd head on over to the General Board!

Now if I wanted to just relax I would head on over to the Playground.

I started the Spring of 2003 thread as a thread dedicated to outdoor activitys and sports. Thank GOD for the great people on that thread that transformered it into the thread it is now. It's not my thread it belong to the fantastic people that make up that thread... It's a great meeting place...

You guys have my support anytime. I thing your doing a great job. I don't see a show of hands that are looking to replace you! So thank you very much for being great monitors. Oh, and that was a unsolicited comment (unless you're planning to be in Connecticut in the very near future... If so PM me!).

The U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights guarantee us that there will be a "Separation of Playground and Personnals". How can it be otherwise? The founding fathers of this country saw clearly the need to hold personnels separate because of the things they'd seen going on in Europe at the time.

The personnels have an inalienable right to post as do the playgrounders. But they must not, by the law of the land, be done together.

Simple keep them separate. When I am playing useless games I don't want ad posters getting bent over the revolving of the games.

I do not have a personal ad, but if I do ever get time to place one. I don't want to end up on page 25 every ten minutes cause of useless bantering.

The games and silly topics are fun but are not personal, like the personals.
