Should an author tell the exact size of a man's member?

Do you like it when the author describes a man's cock size in inches?

Do your tits hang low, do they wobble to and fro,
can you tie 'em in a knot, can you tie 'em in a bow,
can you throw 'em over your shoulder like a Continental soldier,
do your tits - hang - low.

Bra...bra...there's some kind of nickname for a bra...

One of my proudest literotiary moments... ( aside from that new word) was the clever ploy of alluding to the Magnum condom being used on me rather than get into size description or measurement.

Clever perhaps, but of course I was one bombed by some freak named anomynous who advised me that I was writing fantasy and condoms should never be used in fantasies...

Sighhhhhhh Unforutnately for me, it was one of those real life adventure things where the use of a condom seemed (and continues to seem) prudent when engaged in sex with a new partner....

Curious... that was four years ago and just last weekend I felt someone pulling on my sleeve and it was the same heroine from my story, unseen by me in all these years...

Totally off thread but here is another thing that is distracting from erotic works.... This 30 something (maybe 40 something by now!) woman was one of the finest lovers I have ever had... but she has a high squeaky voice and giggles a lot..... It is just not fair....

And I left that out of my story....

We would love a link to that story so everyone can read it. Sounds like it a good example.

What amuses me is that the fantasy was too subtle for anonymous. Your character used a Magum for crying out loud. :D

Rather than actual measurments I thing, "Big. Really Big. Monumental, in fact," sorta works for me.

Well, not at cocktail parties...

In other circumstances, of course! And that description should be accompanied by exhaustive detail of the bait and tackle used to catch it, and how much fight it put up.

Whenever I read a story that mentions the size of the penis or the breasts, I automatically think the author's a newbie. Pros just write if the thing is big and hard or the things are big and firm. And whenever I read

"...let me tell you about her: she's 5'8", a brunette, with a 32DD and..."

I hit the back button - if I can be bothered, I might give a low score to the story before I go. It's just so lame!!!

I know I really shouldn't but I've always been inordinately proud of Thunder Follows Lightning for the description of the female protag. No measurements at all, but a rather pretty picture none-the-less, about a quarter of the way down the first page.

The description of the female written in "Thunder Follows Lighting" is simply brilliant. I didn't want to stop reading.

Should an author tell the exact size of a man's member?

Only if it is being cut off and pickled for all the future to view. :D

Depends

It really depends on the overall story and the stated size. If the overall story is good and the author handles stating the size without drawing away from the action, it is fine. Also, in size queen stories, stating ridiculous lengths is a turn off. 13 inches, really? 8,9,10 is good, 11,12 pushing it. In general, I would say it doesn't matter either way so long as the author doesn't have to stop the flow just to get the size in and so long as the size isn't absurd. Of course there are those humor stories where being absurd is the point and those are the exception to a lot of rules.
