~Shoot the Shit with Deacon~ (or anyone else)

So, I figure there are a ton of people I don't know here (lots of new faces so to speak) I used to have a thread for shooting the shit, or just yakking about whatever is on your mind. I figure it's time for another, and people can get to know me, or anyone else that chooses to post in here.

Every once in a while I'll post a "Stupid Question" like I used to, or try and start interesting topics to talk about. Maybe you want to post pictures of things you've made, or projects you'd like to start, or maybe just get some advice.

The only thing I ask, is that you leave politics and religion at the door :D

So post and have fun!

Where's the "stupid question?" All I see is some guy that looks familiar.

I'll throw a question out there, because I need some help coming up with No, or Low protein meals. I'm in end stage kidney failure, and they want me to cut my protein intake way down because its hard on my kidneys and I don't need it since I can't get the exercise that most people get (due to fatigue)

So if you've got any ideas, I'd appreciate them (Keep in mind that carbs are full of sugars)

Ohhh, there's the question. MealLime has an awesome app where you can get all kinds of recipes based on your inputted options. Could help. (Even makes your grocery list for you) Sorry to hear the kidney's have gotten so much worse my friend.

Thanks Tolyk :D

I also have cancer, so its fun times all around, LOL. Thats part of the healthier diet thing, trying to save the kidneys for as long as possible. Its been a crazy year so far, to say the least :)

Damn man. Stop one-upping me in health issues! It's not a good game, noone wins here!

Fuck cancer. I'm sorry to hear you're not doing well.

I can only blame myself. I put off the colonoscopy for way too long, and it bit me in the ass (Quite literally)

But I wont let it beat me, lol. I'm too mean for cancer to win :D

I'm actually doing pretty well, all things considered. Plus, I have this cool plastic porta cath in my chest. My grandkids think its cool :D

Yeah. Ignoring health is not a good plan. I'm glad you're doing ok. Keep fighting the good fight

Google 'renal diets'

There are websites and books out there, I'm sure.

How much protein are you allowed each day?

Hey Deacon- Seen you around but haven't chatted yet. You hit the motherload with health stuff- that's for sure. You have a lot of support on here it seems, but I'm one more wishing you healing.

Low-Sodium stir fry cauliflower rice (with veggies) and spinach salads. That's about all I can up with, for now.

Yum yum yum! What’s for dinner BCC? I’m starving ā˜ŗļø

Something from a nearby restaurant:

Brown stew chicken (without rice), hot potato salad and cabbage. A Caribbean dish. Don’t feel like cooking.[/QUOTE]

Yum yum BCC!! I’ll get my coat šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Hey Deacon, hope you are doing well today dear.😘

Oh Fara...what a beautiful song. It brought tears to my eyes and made me think of my brother .

Deacon, this is good and it's easy. If you add 3-4 oz of a meat and a salad, you can have it as a meal. Alone, it's a good breakfast food or snack. It can also be used as a side dish.

Low Carb, Low Protein Spanakopita (I hope you like spinach!)

Ingredients:

4 SERVINGS (approx: per serving 10 net carbs, 3 gms of protein)

8.8 ounces spinach (if frozen, let defrost and drain)
5 eggs (mixed well)
1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese (use a little less or different cheese if preference)
2 tomatoes (sliced on top or diced if mixed in with spinach...your choice)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon nutmeg (can omit if you choose)
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 tablespoon basil (dried is also fine)
1 tablespoon oregano (dried is also fine)
salt (to taste, best to add a little pre-cooking vs more post if it has no taste IMHO)
pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil (for greasing the tray)

*Feel free to add veggies to bulk it up and make it more filling. For example, diced and sautƩed eggplant can be added nicely. (*A one pound eggplant has about 20 net carbs and about 5.5 grms of protein)

Grease pan. Mix all spices into egg mixture. In a separate bowl, mix spinach, cheese, and then add and mix in egg mixture. If using diced tomatoes, add last. Pour mixture into prepared pan. If using sliced tomatoes, layer over top. Sprinkle with small amount of cheese if desired. Bake approx 20 minutes at 350. Check at 15 minutes...try not to overcook.

It's also good cold, as a snack.

If you try it, I hope you enjoy it. :rose: xo

How much protein are you allowed each day?

It shouldn't exceed 25% of my caloric intake, but I'm going with 3 ounces twice a day.

I'm not big on cauliflower, bu I might start trying new things :) Thanks for saying hello!

I'm feeling great! Now lets just hope it stays that way, lol :D

I do like fresh baby spinach, but I've never tried it cooked. I'll give it a go soon :D

Tonight I sauteed fresh green beans, a white onion, then I pressure cooked sweet potatoes with fresh carrots, and some ground beef, and put it over rice. It was perfect!

Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone :D

Okay, so something that's been on my mind a lot lately, so I'm making it a "Stupid Question"

How important do you think electric cars are to our future? (No opinion is wrong)

I feel like they are important, but we're just handing the oil company's power, over to the electric company, lol.

They have less moving parts, but the parts arent cheap, and the current auto mechanic situation makes repairs tough. (Most mechanics don't know electric cars)

I still want a Tesla 3, regardless, but we'll see what happens :)

Electric cars are a boondoggle which is very misleading. Their manufacture isn't environmentally friendly, nor is their plug 'n play refueling. An internal combustion engine designed to highly fuel-efficient mileage standards is a smarter choice. Why? Most of our electricity is produced by coal or natural gas-powered facilities. Mass-produced solar power is insufficient. Plus the batteries used on all-electric vehicles work poorly in cold climates as well as under heavy loads. They're also short-lived and terribly expensive. So overall, good idea but still currently impractical.

A number of years ago, (2015 or so) Honda came out with a hydrogen powered car..they exhausted only water vapor

I remember reading somewhere recently that some country was back on the idea of hydrogen cars. All it makes me think of is the Hindenburg

I had a friend that built a hydrogen car back in Michigan. He did it as a college project. Car was filled with batteries (backseat and trunk) You charge the batteries overnight, and then then run a hydrogen generator (or reactor) which is just a few cylinders made from large PVC pipe and some stacked washers on all-thread inside. You add water and soda ash I believe (The electrolyte) and when its electrified it splits the water into hydrogen and oxygen. It burns and then returns to water.

It worked half way decent, but it wasn't able to maintain higher speeds to get anywhere, sadly.

It was cool to see and help with though :D

Watch out for carrots - they are loaded with sugar.

hugs sugar -

My new diet is working out well :) I do have to watch my blood sugar level, but I'm doing well with it.

Now a new question or topic.

Do any of you use stick PCs, or micro computers?

I've always gamed on my PC and built big, expensive rigs to do it. Now I own a Play Station 4 and will be buying a playstation 5 in the future. Now I just need something to browse the internet, run MS Word, and a few other apps.

I didnt even know they made PC sticks, or micro PCs, lol. My last graphics card cost me a grand, so these things are a great option I guess, if you don't game :)

Any input would be cool :D

Okay, another stupid question from the Deacon.

What is your favorite variety of tomato (if you like tomatoes) as in cherry, heritage, beefsteak, hothouse, etc.

Mine are yellow pear, sun golds, early girl, or large pink slicing tomatoes :D

Evening Deacon,
My favorite tomatoes are Prego, Heinz, and Campbell's. V-8 is pretty good too.
PG.

This was a great, and funny answer. :) The thread fell like a lead balloon though, and I missed it, lol.

I'll ask a new question brought up in the "nosy" thread.

What is the difference between "happily married", and "content"?

Oh, I know this answer!

The amount of good sex!

ETA: this is why he's the "ex" husband. 🤣
