My quandary would be the control, unless statistical relativity could be more abstract and include while excluding particular variables to find the mean.

Well, we can eliminate at least one variable by holding the probe and test site constant. Then, I believe robust, steady and vigorous iteration of the test process should yield a sufficient quantity of data. Perhaps every hour, on the hour, during daylight hours? It should be trialed for a week to start, I think.

Though that might not be the quantitative evidence we need as the original hypothesis has no inquiry there. also, retaining the number of subjects to gain enough data would be a daunting task. Perhaps that could be a secondary study with a select few?
