I'm working on a Steampunk Erotic BDSM book and in the 4th chapter, I'm running into an issue that I need help with. This chapter is about electric play and exhibitionism and being in a cage so you are safe to do what you like and not be afraid of what someone watching from outside the cage will do. But the trick is: I have no idea what electricity feels like to a female. I've played with a TENS unit on my dick, and when I was a kid, with a small hand crank generator, which is what is described in this segment... maybe it would just be better if you read a few paragraphs? Here you go:

---

Seth continued, "So when you take a motor and hook electrical power wires up to it, the motor spins. But if you disconnect the wires, and spin the motor yourself, the connection points on the motor will produce electrical power instead. That is called an "alternator", and is, in fact how we make electricity, although in much larger form, and purpose built for connection to a steam engine or water wheel or what else."

Looking at his hand and flexing it, he explained "My mates, being right bastards, hooked up a crank to the motor and dared each other to hold onto the terminals while they cranked the motor as hard as they could." Seth laughed his deep laugh, which always sent a little tingle through Marion, and he looked at her woefully "So of course, I had to prove I could take more than they, and my hand is the worse for it."

Always curious, Marion asked "What does it feel like? Does it hurt?"

"Well… " Seth thought for a moment "It starts out sort of like a tickle, then becomes like a vibration, and then yes, if you crank hard enough, it hurts!" He laughed again.

And that was that; Marion would not rest until Seth brought in the device in question, and two lengths of wire to pass the current into the cage. One he connected to the cage itself, and the other he passed into the cage to for her to hold the bare end. Explaining that it took no little strength to turn the generator, Seth agreed to provide motion from his ample supply of muscle, but only enough so that she could feel the tickle or perhaps the buzz. Marion had other plans. While holding the wire end in hand, with her shapely bare foot pressed against the now electrified cage, she first yelped in surprise, but then quickly grabbed the wire again and asked Seth to keep going. From the tickle to the buzzing feeling, Marion was wide eyed and excited, but when Seth went faster, after her assurances that she was in no pain, she was suddenly in a little pain… and was wildly turned on.

Quickly removing the rest of her clothes in the safety of her cage, Marion experimented with holding the wire by the insulative cover while placing the exposed end on her nipples (bitingly delicious), on her stomach (strange and uncomfortable), and finally, unfolding her perfect legs to expose her now very moist pussy she pulled her lips apart for the ultimate test. With her eyes wide open, starting to breath heavily from the excitement, Marion pressed the end of the wire against her clit and then nodded to Seth, who began to very slowly turn the crank. With the first pulse of electric current, Marion squirmed and gasped, wiggling as she struggled to become accustomed to the strange feeling. Locking eyes with Seth, she nodded, encouraging him to continue.

Each tiny pulse....

---

Each tiny pulse what? What does it feel like to a woman to have her clit shocked? Anyone tried it? Anyone know anyone whos tried it?

Also if you have a good knowledge of Victorian England and you don't mind commenting on a google doc, I could use a period accuracy editor.

While the crank electric shock generators never produced a lot of amps, it's still not clever to rig wiring so the voltage passes through the upper body cavity. Yes, the Victorians did it, in the name of quack medicine and a quick buck, but the generators were small and had small cranks that couldn't be turned very quickly, so amperage stayed low. Any sizable motor cranked "as hard as they could" represents enough energy to be a danger to more than hands.

Your description is a little off - getting the voltage high enough to be felt requires more than the generating motor; it requires an additional coil to step the voltage up, to overcome skin resistance. That said, I'd leave out *any* construction details - you'd just encourage someone to build something. That could go poorly; we have better magnets and coils then they did.

You can read up on the effect of violet wands, which is in the rough range of power you're trying to describe (and they didn't come all that many years later.)

As for what it feels like, I don't have a clit, myself, so I can't give specific details. But in terms of moisture, nerve endings and blood flow, a lip is probably similar. Try shocking your lip and seeing if you still think this is a good idea.

TENS units are not the same thing. They have tuned frequencies, voltages and amperage to cause a specific effect. Taking voltage from a generator and coil is a different animal.

I'm not a fan, personally, of electric shock play, but I'm just going to interject some safety concerns:

'Bare end' of a wire...so the exposed metal without any kind of pad or lubrication between the wire and the skin? That sounds dangerous, and can cause skin burns, nerve damage, muscle damage, etc. Touching the wire to the breast, or lip--please don't do that--also has potential safety concerns being so close to the heart or brain. From what I've heard, safe play guide lines is to keep the shock points below the waist.

Now a TENS machine is different than a live wire, and can be placed safely in certain areas of the lower back and shoulders where a wire should not. You may want to do some more research about electric shocks vs. electro therapy. I myself would not be able to help elaborate on your rig design to accommodate a more therapeutic application.

If what you were going for is more of a TENS machine feel, then whether you want to describe the feeling as a tickle, or pulse, or whatever, what you're trying to get at is describing involuntary muscle contraction, the release of endorphins at that point on the body, and any numbing sensations that result from the stimulus.

Good luck

You might want to ask on the BDSM forum, or message DVS who's familiar with electroplay.

"But if you disconnect the wires, and spin the motor yourself, the connection points on the motor will produce electrical power instead. That is called an "alternator", "

No it's not; it's a dynamo (for a given type).
An Alternator is a bit more complicated than that.

As to what's which. We had a saying "It's volts that jolts, but Mills wot kills".
A voltage can give you a nasty bits, but what kills you real proper is Current; especially across the chest (30mA will stop your heart) [the electric chair is rather primitive]..

Did someone call for the safety police? I did not call for the safety police.

The technical corrections are appreciated, if not terribly interesting.

Thanks for nothing, I hope y'all had fun blowing your own horns. Was it good for you? LOL.

I suggest even better. Go to smartstim.com and use a search function there or read a FAQ.

It is a huge community dedicated solely to tens stimulation.

All I can tell you myself is this: tens can produce a wide range of sensations based on the wavelength. Tickling, prickling, zapping, the sensation close to that you have when your arm falls asleep and then wakes up; the sensation of squeezing of an area, as if you have an invisible muscle that contracts, pulling the flesh with it; the sensation of light tapping, as if you hit the area with a finger...

This may not be all. Also tens most of the time has some degree of pain undercurrent - it can feel good, but not entirely so. It can still make you cum.

If applied to clit the sensation would most likely be intense tickling and some prickling, if what you are going for is pleasure. You know how sometimes the inner side of the sole of your foot starts to itch, and no matter how you scratch it it doesn't go away? I imagine something similar. An intense insistent tickling itch.
