I'm working on a Steampunk Erotic BDSM book and in the 4th chapter, I'm running into an issue that I need help with. This chapter is about electric play and exhibitionism and being in a cage so you are safe to do what you like and not be afraid of what someone watching from outside the cage will do. But the trick is: I have no idea what electricity feels like to a female. I've played with a TENS unit on my dick, and when I was a kid, with a small hand crank generator, which is what is described in this segment... maybe it would just be better if you read a few paragraphs? Here you go:

And that was that; Marion would not rest until Seth brought in the device in question, and two lengths of wire to pass the current into the cage. One he connected to the cage itself, and the other he passed into the cage to for her to hold the bare end. Explaining that it took no little strength to turn the generator, Seth agreed to provide motion from his ample supply of muscle, but only enough so that she could feel the tickle or perhaps the buzz. Marion had other plans. While holding the wire end in hand, with her shapely bare foot pressed against the now electrified cage, she first yelped in surprise, but then quickly grabbed the wire again and asked Seth to keep going. While the crank electric shock generators never produced a lot of amps, it's still not clever to rig wiring so the voltage passes through the upper body cavity. Yes, the Victorians did it, in the name of quack medicine and a quick buck, but the generators were small and had small cranks that couldn't be turned very quickly, so amperage stayed low. Any sizable motor cranked "as hard as they could" represents enough energy to be a danger to more than hands.

Your description is a little off - getting the voltage high enough to be felt requires more than the generating motor; it requires an additional coil to step the voltage up, to overcome skin resistance. That said, I'd leave out *any* construction details - you'd just encourage someone to build something. That could go poorly; we have better magnets and coils then they did.

You can read up on the effect of violet wands, which is in the rough range of power you're trying to describe (and they didn't come all that many years later.)

As for what it feels like, I don't have a clit, myself, so I can't give specific details. But in terms of moisture, nerve endings and blood flow, a lip is probably similar. Try shocking your lip and seeing if you still think this is a good idea.

TENS units are not the same thing. They have tuned frequencies, voltages and amperage to cause a specific effect. Taking voltage from a generator and coil is a different animal.

I'm not a fan, personally, of electric shock play, but I'm just going to interject some safety concerns:

'Bare end' of a wire...so the exposed metal without any kind of pad or lubrication between the wire and the skin? That sounds dangerous, and can cause skin burns, nerve damage, muscle damage, etc. Touching the wire to the breast, or lip--please don't do that--also has potential safety concerns being so close to the heart or brain. From what I've heard, safe play guide lines is to keep the shock points below the waist.

Now a TENS machine is different than a live wire, and can be placed safely in certain areas of the lower back and shoulders where a wire should not. You may want to do some more research about electric shocks vs. electro therapy. I myself would not be able to help elaborate on your rig design to accommodate a more therapeutic application.

If what you were going for is more of a TENS machine feel, then whether you want to describe the feeling as a tickle, or pulse, or whatever, what you're trying to get at is describing involuntary muscle contraction, the release of endorphins at that point on the body, and any numbing sensations that result from the stimulus.

No it's not; it's a dynamo (for a given type).
An Alternator is a bit more complicated than that.

As to what's which. We had a saying "It's volts that jolts, but Mills wot kills".
A voltage can give you a nasty bits, but what kills you real proper is Current; especially across the chest (30mA will stop your heart) [the electric chair is rather primitive]..
