So, go into it expecting people to have STI's and do everything reasonable to protect yourselves. If you're uncomfortable with getting herpes, HPV or gonorrhea in your throat, for instance, use protection for giving/receiving oral sex and limit genital-genital contact as much as possible. Make sure the club is clean and always put clean sheets/towels between yourselves and surfaces that others have been on. Refresh your memories on STI's, safer sex and get yourselves tested frequently and comprehensively, always.
Believe it or not, quite a few swingers and promiscuous people don't get tested or use safer sex measures because they figure most everyone else does or they "know" the people they're fucking.
There's lots of great info on swinging etiquette, clubs, groups and personals via Google. One site I've found particularly helpful and welcoming is SwingersBoard. You can search for clubs/groups/swingers in your area and then do further checking on the specific clubs/groups that look good. Every club is different, although most have some common rules and some sort of orientation or resource for newbies (it serves a club well to bring in "fresh meat" and educate the newbs). Personally, I'd shy away from a club that didn't invest in attracting and orienting new people, but maybe that's just me.

I've fucked over 20 people, so it's certainly not isloated incidents, either. Even the guys that were doing the gloryhole thing didn't have any and you know they had to expect something sexual was going to happen. One woman even knew a week in advance that she was going to lure me to her apartment and she didn't even have one. *wonders how she could possibly have 3 kids at 23* Seriously, a lot of these people are what gives casual sex such a bad name.
