So, who has an original album of the Beatles' "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band" that they are pulling out and putting on display tomorrow for the album's 50th year release date anniversary? Mine's on a stand in my den for a couple of days. I might even play it. The songs are still good.

What's the album worth these days? I feel a tad old now. Think I will go listen to some of those songs. :)

I've got an early mono pressing from EMI Australia that my older sister left behind when she left home. She was fourteen when the album was released so my guess is a birthday or Christmas present that year or in the next year or so.

Mono pressing suggests to me it's from an early batch.

I was lucky, I also have an older brother. Back then people either loved the Beatles or loved the Stones. I've always said, thank god my brother loved the Stones. I can still remember as a ten year old listening to "Satanic Majesties Request", "Let it Bleed" and "Get Yer Ya Yas Out" on a crappy little record player, also Led Zep 1 and 2 when they were first released, later "Who's Next". Then I discovered Jim Morrison and The Doors. That was it, me done, rock-n-roll with every hook permanently in my skin. Still is.

I'm in stupid vinyl heaven, with the promise of the fiftieth anniversary releases of The Doors - I now have a 2017 vinyl pressing of their first album - in mono, what's more!

Never thought much of the Beatles as a teenager, to be honest. Still don't.

Lady Ver - depends on condition and whether it is genuine first pressing. Hundreds of dollars, maybe, thousands if it is mint condition.

Ugh, I ask you...who the hell is gonna own a 'mint' of Sgt. Pepper? My own has seen more action than a houseful of 18 year old hookers living next door to a military base.

People find them - there are several collectors here in Oz who have tens of thousands of LPs, some of which have only been played once or twice. And people will go buy pressings purely for the sake of collecting them and never playing them - they can change hands at ridiculous prices. Collectors are like erotica writers - strange people.

I was too much of an early adopter. All of my vinyl went to a good home the moment that the CD versions came out. :(

Personally, I thought that Revolver was a better album anyway. :)

I have a lot of old vinyl...all originals. The kid comes home the other day and says, "Does that thing still work?" (That in itself had me baffled for a moment so I just nodded.) "Can I play with it one day?" she asked. Now I actually began to wonder what the hell she meant by that and was about to politely decline her generous offer when I realized she was looking at the old record-player on the shelf.

I told her, "Sure, you can. Anytime you like." To my horror, she began to look it over carefully and when I asked her what she was looking for, she said, "I think it's missing the handle you use to make it spin." (Have I ever mentioned how much I resent young people?)

I have one. I didn't even think about pulling it out for the 50th anniversary, but I will. I don't have a record player to play it on, however. It definitely is not in mint shape, but it's not horrible either. It probably has not been played for over 20 years.

I got it from my parents. It was the first pop/rock album I ever listened to over and over. I pulled it off the shelf one day in the 1970s and immediately became a Beatle fan.

I don't know if it's "original" in the sense that the record itself was made and released in 1967, but it's possible. My parents had had it for a long time by the time I listened to it.

I have Revolver, too, and I agree with SamScribble: it's better.

Here's a picture of mine:

Sorry for the vinyl and CD purists -but I have well over 5,000 albums, and I have to bow to convenience. So:
- Every vinyl album I ever had was re-purchased as a CD - and the scratchy old albums were given away.
- Every CD I purchased has been ripped to hi-def MP3
- I no longer buy CDs - I buy downloads. (Bandcamp is one of my favorite sources.)

All of my music is now on an external hard drive (hence the picture above), and backed up onto 2 others. My CDs themselves are in huge cases, in a storage locker.

I can access any album almost instantly, I can copy any selection of albums onto my phone / iPad / whatever, and to have the entire collection on a device that's hardly bigger than a brick is the ultimate in convenience.

Anywhere from $10 to $250 on Ebay today, apparently. I guess I'll just keep my copy.

I've maintained two six-changer LP stereo players just to be able to play my record collection--which I don't play often enough. The record players are downstairs and my home office is upstairs.

I transferred most of my LPs to digital versions so I can play them on whatever I want.

No original Pepper, but I do have Early Steppenwolf.

Revolver was more 'sarcastic', IMO. 'Sharper', somehow.

And it's impossible to get an untroubled version on You Tube.

The cartridge for my turntable is no longer made, so my vinyl remains in crates.

I've got one from back in the day.

Also have the Lynyrd Skynyrd Street Survivors "fire album" cover which is worth next to nothing, sort of surprisingly collector-wise.

My brother in law owns over five thousand albums. He's had this one out for the last three days on the stand on the mantle.

My sister hates the Beatles:D

Wait, what? Pilot says he's got his copy on a stand on the mantle. Is there something you guys aren't telling us? Now I'm getting a bit scared...

The value of an original Sgt Pepper album isn't as much as some people think because it sold in such large quantities.

Obviously an original in mint, unplayed, condition will be worth much more than a loved and played-to-death one.

And like any other collectible from years ago an unused one is hard to find because back then people actually listened to their albums.

Damn, did I let that slip? That my sister is married to Pilot? Yeah, she goes for the older guys. ;) We argue on here for appearances sake but have a real life bro-mance going on. Christmas is at his house this year.

People said that about cars too, but every once in a while you find somebody who had the vision to buy and set aside a GTO, Mustang, Chevelle SS or Dodge Dart. I knew somebody who did that with a '68 Dart. He kept it garaged and very, very seldom ever drove it. Flat refused to sell it to anyone. Not sure what happened to it after he died.

No, mine's on a stand on a credenza under a long bank of windows in the den, next to the TV set. There's room because my wife winters plants there and has now taken them all outside.
