And that's my problem - I'm honestly quite respectable in real life. A pillar of society. :p

Respectable in RL, maybe. Respectable in private my arse. You obviously have sexual fantasies, which you're capable of talking about, even if it is behind a pseudonym. That puts you a step above a lot of girls. Even if you're a straight-laced Tab A into Slot B girl, you still have the sexual freedom to dream about things and to express them here. Which means that you should more than live up to your billing.

Go get 'em tigress.

I think my stories are a good bit tamer than I can be in r/l, given the right partner and circumstances.

Guess I'm in there with the other sluts - seems like a good place to be. :)

I've decided I'm going to be there now, too!

My writing is writing first so if anyone knows me well they'll know what's fiction vs. RL. As for a new male acquaintance, if I'm attracted to him he'll get 'my' eroticism from who he meets, the real woman in front of him, the erotic stories won't matter.

Despite the consistency with which I have been "cantdog" on the net, from the eighties, which is a considerable length of time and a lot of typing, I don't imagine a person in a myriad knows me by that name. I've been cantdog @delphi, cantdog @aol, cantdog @bigfoot, cantdog @gwi.net, Cantdog @agate.net, cantdog @ lots of places, since ISPs do seem to get SIDS, don't they? But despite that, and despite haunting usenet and other public venues, I don't imagine I have a lot of notoriety.

I recently joined yahoo, to have a net based address for traveling, and they already had a "cantdog", which surprised me.

I have told my circle of friends, face to face, that I'm on a porn site, writing stories. None of them, and none of the people they might tell about it, have said they've read me.

I really can't sweat this. Fame is eluding me easily. Not only that, who on earth am I going to go into that arena with? I've been married since 1972 to the same woman.

I'm afraid it's a problem which is very unlikely to appear. I wonder how you could have managed to become so notorious!

Nope, tends to frighten them off actually.

A lot of women, that I've met in R/L since I've started writing, assume that a guy who writes the stuff that I do must be a bit on the twisted side.

in spite of all the yakkety-yak about sexual freedom, puritanism is a big part of the modern psyche.

When I write, I usually try to reflect a bit of who I am personally. I stay true to how I would want things to unfold in real life.

Yes! And that's good, Bridget. I have tried for many years to comprehend the motivations of human beings. I try to have my stories use the conclusions I've reached, because I want any readers to see why the characters are doing what they are doing.

Being true to the common drives and reactions of humanity makes your work accessible. Use your own drives and your own reactions if you can't think what another might do.

Without a little universality, what we write will be esoteric and at last irrelevant to our readers.

Well, I am waiting for the day I can tell my family that my short stories are actually earning money.

(It's still a bit tough to confess to my parents that my Anal Sex How-to Story is doing well!)

*sigh*

On the other hand, my sister knows what I do and is happy for me. And my husband? He's delighted. ;)

That's interesting.

My husband's football coaching buddies know I write naughty stories and they love it. I know they've read some of my things.

Naughty boys.

Since I have been writing erotica for less than two years and have been married for approaching eight, the issue of expectations is not a problem. But even if I were single, I don't think it likely I would tell someone who I was dating about this outlet for my writing until after we had become close enough that it would be academic.

One of my stories, the most successful as far as consistent ranking, is based very largely on an actual event. But I have not wriiten anything that is totally and drastically outside my experience. That will change shortly, but so far I have been able to draw quite a bit on memory.

Sorry Bel..........my lips are sealed. I value my body, as it is, staying in one piece. ;)

Nah, just joking. Scheh is, as she says......a pillar of society, 100% respectable, your typical girl next door ........
