Do you believe in sexual addiction...?

Cigarettes can be addictive...

Drugs can be addictive...

Alcohol can be addictive...

These all have CHEMICALS in them that cause the addiction. Do you think that someone can be ADDICTED to sex or sexual stimuli or is it just a convenient term that is used to rationalize our actions...?

Yes I do and i think I have it.

Sex also causes the production and absorption of chemicals that make most people feel very happy...

But like externally produced chemicals that cause addiction, most people can quit if they really want to.

The problem is wanting to. If it even is a problem...if you are fortunate enough to find someone who has the same appetites, I fail to see where the problem lies.

I am addicted and really don't ever want to change because it feels so good.

Orgasm involves brain chemicals.

I've heard orgasms produce oxytocin in the brain, and we know that it's an addictive drug. I suppose it's possible that some people can get addicted to sex for that reason.

Do a Google search for 'sexual addiction' and see what you come up with. There must be some research results posted out there somewhere.

yes people can be addicted to sex and it can cause just as must destruction as the rest especially if your married.

I look at it as long as you don't do anything to get yourself arrested! Although I am starting too be close to border line of that! Lol

I believe in sex addiction because I think I suffer from it. :)
My mojo has come back 100x stronger than before I had cancer. Once I'm back to work and in a routine I might even out. But for now, I'm in heat.

I never chatted with you Leigh, but I have been following your posts and it's incredible what all you've been through! I am so happy you got back control of your health and sex drive! I guess it's a bonus that the drive is ten fold! Good for you. :)

I echo what Sandra said. I also believe it's a kind of addiction in that we can get seriously dependent on the kind of chemicals it release after orgasm. I mean, who experiences that and DOESN'T want it repeated?!?

Sexual addiction is very real. It consumes you some times, where your next release is all you can think about. Chasing that feeling can be as exquisite as the goal

Thanks for having my back,it feels great to stand together

I think sexual addiction in the clinical sense refers to those who are so interested in getting off that it adversely affects other aspects of your life.

According to the American Society for Addiction Medicine:

"Addiction is a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry. Dysfunction in these circuits leads to characteristic biological, psychological, social and spiritual manifestations. This is reflected in an individual pathologically pursuing reward and/or relief by substance use and other behaviors.

Addiction is characterized by inability to consistently abstain, impairment in behavioral control, craving, diminished recognition of significant problems with one’s behaviors and interpersonal relationships, and a dysfunctional emotional response. Like other chronic diseases, addiction often involves cycles of relapse and remission. Without treatment or engagement in recovery activities, addiction is progressive and can result in disability or premature death."

I'm somewhat skeptical as to the source of this definition. These people have a profit interest in convincing people they're addicted to something so they will pay for a cure.

According to the bottom line, however, it looks like a favorite habit does not qualify as an addiction unless it can result in disability or premature death.

I doubt that most people would be able to engage in sex until they died from it.

But sometimes I think I might like to try....:D

As an addiction professional, "sex addiction" is a term we struggle with. Depending on how it is seen, it can be considered "real". If a person persues sexual activity (including porn, prostitutes, masturbation] to the determent of jub, family, relationships, then there is a "real problem". While highly unlikely to "fuck yourself to death" the risk of STD's including HIV/AIDS, is a factor.
