Sex: What the fuck?

I almost always write it as though the people having sex were acting as cross purposes. They expect different things from each other than they get. They read the situation differently. If it's good sex, which it usually is, it's a serendipitous thing, because they are trying for different goals and not understanding one another at all, hardly.

That's what makes writing sex fun, and writing dialogue fun. Cross purposes. :)

SEXY! Thank you  anyone else?

I all depends on the situation. What's brought to the table so to speak and whose doing the bringing. First time is different from say a couple who have been together a while... and is it their nortmal thing or are they trying something new...

In any case it's what spills out of my head as I think and write my way through it... a lot comes from personal experience and a lot from fantasy or the way I'd like it to be....

Does this mean you write to the common denominator?

No this means that I handle each scene as a seperate item.... and write it as I see it... i try to fit it into the peramiters of the story most of the time but there are times that it take off on it's own and breaks new ground.....

Oh and exactly what is the Charlieies definition of "Commom Denominator"? I write for me and what fits the story other than that I'm at a loss as to what you're asking..

And that is exactly what I would say, too- if TxRad hadn't said it already :)
I use sex (at least I hope) as a way of moving forward. It's always the focus, in one way or another, of a story, but- not always the same focus. And what moves forward isn't always the same thing. It could be the plot as a whole, or it could be someone's personal growth. it might only be someone's desire to cum, maybe in a way they never expected. but something- some little thing- has to be changed by the sex i write, or I don't get off. As a writer, that is.

I just finished a fairly long story.... where the characters simply would not allow me to cut their scene short.... it was a long drawn out making love not sex.... they touched, loved on each other and simply reveled in the feeling of the bodies that they were in and the ones that they were touching

I don't do a whole lot of thinking during sex... so I don't do a whole lot of thinking when I'm writing sex.

But I write in the first person so it's easy to get caught up in the moment and just let it all hang out until the denouement.

Sincerely,
ElSol

Rather than the sex itself, it's the creating the attraction between the characters, a tension that begs for release. Dialogue is a wonderful tool along with inner thoughts. Let's crawl into their minds to know what they're feeling and thinking. The physics of it all are secondary.

On the other hand, if the characters are vanilla, the sex will be as well, no mater how kinky it might be. There's not really anything new to write there.

You know, elsol, you are such a damn liar! Your stories all show the results of a great deal of thought, sensitivity, passion.
Or have you been putting one over on me this whole time? :p

Sex is the external manifestation of internal feelings as performed on another's psyche and body. What makes sex sexy is not so much what people do, but the way what they do expresses what they're feeling.

For instance-- two people love each other. The sex is tender and loving and mutually considerate. Pretty damned dull as far as I'm concerned.

Now think of two people swept up in passion. Their lovemaking is savage, possessive, maybe even violent. It expresses the ambiguity of passion--desire so intense that it's threatening. The lovers fight to conquer and surrender, or to just survive.

Look at the things people do. What are the semiotics of anal sex? Of woman-on-top? Of tearing clothes off or bringing flowers? Of oral? All of these are expressions of emotion and internal feelings.

Look at the ambiguities of the blow job. They're profound. Just who's controlling whom, and who has the power? Is he violating her or is she dominating him? It all depends how they do it. His grabbing her hair and thrusting means one thing about how he feels for her. His lying back in helpless pleasure means another

That's it. It's all about making internal feelings manifest. That's why beginners' stories of inserting this into that are always so terribly dull. We want to see the feelings, not the physical act.

Thought, yes.

Sensitivity,... I subscribe to the female desire for male sensitivity. "I'm sensitive to her needs." in this case, I'm sensitive to the reader's needs.

Passion... Blah! I'm just a good seducer ;)

Sincerely,
ElSol

Oh yeah...

I subscribe to the concept that a part of the story can be told in the sex.

Boy... do readers hate it when they realize that the sex was a part of the narrative and they have to re-read EVERYTHING.

Damn sex skippers... HA! Skip that!

Sincerely,
ElSol

How do I write sex?

Well, most of the time I need to be in my bedroom. Lights off, shades pulled up. reason being for the shades to be pulled up, it gives me the thought that someone might see...a little naughty feeling that gets me started.

I lay on my bed and close my eyes. I need to picture it, see it happening in my mind's eye, as I slowly caress my body. I just skim my fingers across my pelvis, working my fingers slowly along my torso. I play both parts in my mind - the person being seduced and the seducer.

At this point, I need to have my body and mind working together, making me feel sexy. Sexy enough to know it will work.

I put myself in my character's place and the reader's frame of mind ~ if I didn't have an orgasm....more than likely, neither of them will getting off either.

What is sex? To me it is different things in different circumstances. In some stories it is actually part of the narrative. It is the story so to speak. In other stories it is the culmination of what has happened through the story. At other times the sex might just be a little sidelight to the story. Adding spice to it so to speak.

For me in real life it is all of that and more.

What is sex anyhow  How do you write it?

Sex
What is it?
An interesting thing to ponder now and then. I mean, is it just the act of intercourse? What about all the fore and after play that can be (hopefully is) involved?

Is it more than the mere smooshing of sweaty, aroused bodies together? The interlocking of bodily parts and swapping of fluids from same?

Or is it a state of mind that is mirrored by the physical needs, wants, desires of all the individuals participating as they all join together in trying to best satisfy what they think sex is?

I dunno. <shrug>
But, whatever it is, I write about it the same way as I would anything else. Abstractly. Concretely. Full of details that help to convey the mood of the situation I'm describing. Whether it's a matter of fact depiction of two people having coffee, or a peek into their minds as they both consider how to move from enjoying warm croissants and overpriced cups of joe to savoring the taste of each others lips and breathing in the scent of skin and hair as they try to satisfy both themselves and their partner.

But that's just me. <g>

What is sex? Dunno, as others have said, I suppose it's different things to different people.

How do I write it? I think I write sex very in the moment. I believe I am able to anchor it in details, but still have the emotional element to it. My characters are typically falling through space, on a crash course with destiny, but they don't care; they simply let go and fall.

Yui, you write very hypnotic sex, very immediate. I am awed to read you. I have much more psychic distance.

And I am humbled by your much too generous words, Cant. :rose: Thank you.
