Exactly, that's pretty much what I experienced.

I do remember already being hard when I reached for the plug, so I don't know if inserting it is something that'd make me hard in the first place (and I never experimented with a plug again after that one time). Also, I don't think inserting it interfered with my ability to stay hard to any degree, I don't recall having to stimulate myself more intensely to stay hard… but I do distinctively remember it interfering with my ability to drive my arousal to its natural conclusion, due to the extreme sensitivity I felt by fully inserting the plug.
