Ok, so heres the thing.

I have a thread in the am pics section of the forum.

I want to index the pictures at the beginning of the thread. Easy enough task you would think but I'm in danger of going bald trying to get it to work the way I want it to

What I want is to have an index such as below

PIC1
PIC2
PIC3

But I can't get it so that it displays this.

What am I doing wrong?

What do I need to do to sort this out?

Help please

DK.

I asked this very same question once upon a time. :D

Click on the link for Pic 1, copy the URL when it opens (you want it to open in a new tab or window), then go back to your post and:
1) Click the
createlink.gif
button
2) Paste the URL of the pic/attachment in the box that pops up
3) Hit OK
4) Verify the code Chicklet specified showed up in your post (you can even hit the Preview Post button at the bottom, then open the link that's hopefully there in a new window to make sure you've done it correctly)

Repeat the same process for all of your pics.

It's really nice if you categorize the links, or give some description of what's in the pic (rather than leaving it at Pic 1 or the name your camera or computer gave them), so people can jump to what they like, as opposed to having to open every link. :)

ETA: You may want to put a link to your thread in your sig to increase its traffic when you're done with the index. Or, at least it'd be nice to post a link in this thread so we can see what you did with it.

The only way to do that is remove them through editing the post, which would negate the ability to do an index in most cases. The index is usually set up when someone has attachments, pics, or links, spread all over the thread, rather than in just the first few posts.

From your sig, I can see you're familiar with hotlinking images from a website, such as a photo hosting site that allows adult content. You could upload all of your photos from your computer to such a site, and then insert them directly into your first post(s) on your pic thread. When you're satisfied with the results, you can delete the attached photos.

However, with this approach, you need to be especially aware of Lit's photo posting rules (a sticky thread in Am Pics) because they'll all be out there in plain sight. I also think the attachments are better when it comes to adult material because people can choose if they want to open them or not, which is a big deal if they have a small screen, slow internet connection, are viewing Lit from a public location, might have a little one pass by, etc.

Hey sweet, would you know anyone who is willing to help make an index to put up here? I can't seem to get it to work.

I'll get you started with veeery detailed steps and examples:

1) Find the first post w/ your attachments. Open this in a new tab or window.
2) Right-click on the first attachment.
3) Select 'Copy Link Location' (in Firefox; IE might be a bit different) from the menu that pops up.
4) Click on 'Edit' on your first post in the thread.
5) Put your cursor where you want the index to start, and click on the
createlink.gif
icon at the top of the text box.
6) Write the text you want to appear as the link (e.g. "Red on Bed 1" as I did below)
7) Paste the URL of the attachment you copied into the box and Hit OK.

Below are examples of what the code and final product should look like your New Pics thread. With the code, you simply need to take out the asterisks (*) in the URL tags at the beginning and end to make it work.

The code (minus the asterisks) will look like:
[*URL=http://forum.literotica.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=797550]Red on Bed 1[/URL*]

Will look like this in your thread:
Red on Bed 1

The code will look like:
[*URL=http://forum.literotica.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=797551]Black on Bed 1[/URL*]

Will look like this in your thread:
Black on Bed 1

The final product of the first two images in the index will look like this in your thread:
Red on Bed 1
Black on Bed 1

Or, you can con one of the many AmPics droolers to do it for you. ;) If you go this route, I'd suggest doing at least some of it all by yourself so you learn how, then asking nicely if someone would totally help you out by finishing it for you.
