SEETI@Home is a (I think the correct term is) Ggrid computing initiative, where they break data from the Arcebio radio telescope up into small units, send it out to people who run their program on their computer and then upload the results. It's really pretty neat. They've crunched through an amazing amount of data.

I run it on my home PC, which is on practically 24/7, and is fairly souped up for processing.

Plus I also run it on my work computer. But I signed up for it back in 1999. Never joined a group though. Wonder if anybody knows of a good one to join that wouldn't mind a 5000 wu boost.

Well the group I'm in is a community, kind of like this, but with more geeks and less sex.

They are always racing to beat the groups in front of them for top geek bragging rights. No real purpose I suppose.
