Ok this is not sexual by nature so get your mind out of the gutter.

I have a serious plumbing problem so I think. For the last several day there has been a buzzing sound coming from the bathroom. To place the noise location it sounds like it is from the toilet. Somebody said it sounds like some air in the pipes and it will work its way out. Well, this sound is driving me crazy and has slightly become louder. What are some serious suggestions on stopping the sound?

Please try to refrain from the jokes or etc. I figure we all ask something silly once in a while but it is bothering me.

Peace,
Tulip

Thank you nitelite!

hmmmm so tulip wouldn't do over there huh? I figured there has to be a plumber amongst us here or at least a handy fellow. Sigh.
Again thank you!

Peace,
Tulip

Check your float, it may be sticking causing water to try to fill the tank, also, check to make sure it is seating properly too. Either one can cause it to try to run. If it isn't very much, it will make a buzzing sound as it catches up, then loses the water and starts all over.

Just look in the toilet, if you see water ruining even little bit then there is a problem in a tank...

Curious I have to admit the water

in the tank is coooolllllddddd. I was fidling about with it and the ball thing. (hmmm sounds sexual) I just can't seem to make that buzzing sound stop. It is not a water sound but one like a little alarm. Thanks for the suggestion and I will try to play about with it again soon.

Peace,
Tulip

Does your incoming water supply to the commode have a valve on it? If so, turn it off and see if the noise stops. If it does, there's something wrong with the toilet. If not, it's in the pipes and I will be no help there. Sorry

Ball-cock? No, not sexual at all. Buzzing alarm sound? I think you need to call in the conspiracy theorists--this sounds more like a job for Watergate-type "plumbers."

Check the ball...sounds like it isn't seating right which would cause it to...for lack of a better term at the moment...flutter, which sounds like a buzz. Flush then watch as it fills, it should shut off when it reaches the proper level, and it should do it, well, crisply or sharply. Running then off. If it takes a bit of time to shut then it is in the ball, unless you have the newer type, they don't have a ball per say, they have a stopper. There is a rod that runs down near the hole in the bottom of the tank, check that it is still being held tightly too. (on the stopper type)

If the buzzing sound is still happening, and if you have a chain that runs from the handle to the mechanism on the inside, feel that and see if your touch makes the sound stop.

There isn't a lot that can go bad, but sometimes littles things are the cause of annoying sounds.

do what ex-limey said. turn the valve off and then flush the commode. process of elimination.

I guess we can rule out an SOS from the Tidy Bowl man? By any chance is
there a smoke alarm near by the bathroom? Some smoke alarms will emit
a very high pitched sound, some do it continuously and some intermittently
until the battery completely plays out. To rule the toilet in or out try turning
off the water supply to see if it stops. Most toilet water shut off valves are
near or just above the baseboard behind the toilet. Is there any water
that is not completely shut off? By that I mean a shower or sink because
they will whistle if left open just the slightest. If I can think of anything else
I will let you know and I hope you find the problem because it can be like
Chinese water torture.

Thank you all that posted

here.

Update: The noise is still here and it seems like I will call a plumber this week. I mucked about the tank and my hand is cold. I tried to bend the cock ball down slightly. There seems to be a tight fit with the hole thingy. There is a ripple inside the tank and at times bubbles from the pipe within the tank. I can't hear if the noise is on or not in between the flushing sound. I cannot turn the nob that shuts the water off. It seems to be stuck. (I don't want a flood if I break it) A friend of mine was kind to walk me through some of these steps also and I appreciated the help and suggestions as I do with all the other ones that posted here.

So I will shut the bathroom door and my bedroom door because it is like chinese water torture. It sounds like a person rubbing their wet fingers about good crystal. Realize in the middle of the night still sleep walking to the bathroom I have banged myself against one or the other or both. So please hope for the best that one or the other door doesn't knock me out in my half sleep walk to tinkle.

What I have learned is that there is a lot of sexual inneundos on my part with all this talk about plumbing, cock ball, valve, dripping, water, leverage.... ok I have a perverted mind but something about it if you think about it.

What I validated that lit has some of the best men about with your offers of suggestions. Thank you!

Many kisses and hugs to all that posted here.

Peace,
Tulip

hmmm just try to shut the valve off to your toilet for now....just remember to turn it on if needed!

I'm glad you found some assistance Tulip and hope your problem is solved soon.

I have to tell you though, my first thought when I saw this thread was "Oh God, just stay away from whoever it was with the exploding toilet earlier in the week."

Christophe I am having troubles

shutting off that valve. So it will just make the sound. That is all I can do. Thank you too sweetie. :)

Someplace what exploding toilet post was that. Thanks for the good wishes.

Peace,
Tulip
