Series With Different Chapters In Different Categories

Erotic couplings is the best place for stories that you want to get lost and never read. It has the worst submissions to views ratio of any category, including all the dead categories like non-eroric and letters/transcripts.

Well that's disappointing. I have another WIP I was going to put there. It could go in Group Sex, but I've heard that's even worse.

Apparently it's not a high traffic category but it's not worse. If you post in group, there are people who are into group who will specifically look for it there. If you post in EC, no one is specifically looking for miscellaneous vanilla.

I have one series. It has 4 separate stories. They all stand alone and all have the same plot and are of relatively equal skill/value. The first three are in EC. The last one is in Exhibition. Guess which one has the highest score. Guess which one has the most views and traffic. Despite the first three being around significantly longer, the exhibition story easily past #2 and #3 rather quickly in views and only trails #1 because #1 was posted YEARS earlier. It is only a matter of time before chapter 4 passes it. Chapter 4 easily has the highest score too. Also, views on series stories tend to go down with later chapters yet the last chapter is the most active. The chapter 4 story in exhibition gets 1.5 to 2x the regular weekly traffic that the EC stories get.

4 stories, same author, same plot, same main character, same quality and style, same length. The only difference is that one is not in EC and the one not in EC is the clear most popular, best reactions.

EC is a fucking graveyard.

In my limited experience, EC, E&V and GS got similar views, much less than LW, but much more than SF&F. I gather T/I is similar to LW in views.

None of those three were radically different for me than LS or Romance. But I got very little interaction (comments notably but also favorites and votes) for my stories in those three, despite good ratings. Far less than I get on any other category I have published in.

So it depends what you are looking for.

I'm not going to act like I've got a mountain of data on this, because I don't, but I've only posted 1 in EC and it's my 4th highest in views and seems likely to settle at my 3rd highest given it's still pretty new. The other interactions are pretty solid, too.

But... it got good placement on the first day, it had the H the whole time it was in new. I noticed most of the other stories that were posted along with mine that day got significantly less attention. So it seems reasonable to conclude that EC can pull decent numbers if it's good and lucky. And it can also just get buried. Which is what I've heard from others.

I’ve read several. If the story is cohesive, it works.
This is true. My Lisa’s Dares series has posted chapters in EC, IT and Group, with a GM chapter only available on AO3. The larger Millennial Casanova series which it is part of has also branched out into Lesbian and Celebrity.
