Separating Transgender and Crossdresser stories?

Hello...I've been reading stories at this site for probably like 15 years, so thank you for keeping it up.

Is there any possibility of separating "Transgender" and "Crossdresser" stories? They really aren't the same thing, and keeping them together just perpetuates that right-wing myth.

Thanks,
-Amy

People have been asking for bi-sexual to be separated too, for the last twenty years, but that's not happened either.

I agree with you, deeply, but the fight has to be fought within the stories, to write respectful content. It's there, you just have to dig deep to find it.

Probably from the "Gay Male" or "Lesbian Sex" categories (don't even get me started on my feelings on the differences of phrasing), since there isn't a separate "Bisexual" category.
Yes, this. I would love to see the updates/changes mentioned in the thread. Transgender and Crossdressing should be separate. Bisexual stories should have their own category.

Nope. These are tolerated, not encouraged, stories by the Web site. No bisexual categories (actually there should be a split there too--male perspective/female perspective). The one category for discussion should also be split. But very little chance of any splitting. Over twenty categories for straight (even with cash prizes for separate categories), one for lesbian, one and a half for gay male, and none for bisexual.

Correct. Bi gets lumped in with GM and Lesbian, and sometimes sits well, sometimes doesn't.

It seems every category has its hard core adherents who say, "That doesn't belong here," thus making things harder for the more open minded and less fanatical.

Tags are more reliable than categories.
I don't see evidence that tags are used much, and they are buried--not on top. And you can't just tag something "first time" and get the split. Since this site is skewed to straight, a 'first time" tag is skewed straight. To reach the audiences mentioned here you'd have to tag "gay first time," "bi first time," or "lesbian first time." I don't see much of that happening. I think most readers pick off the combined new list or go to the hubs of their interests. The hubs bounce them back into the category issue.

No, this is primarily a straight site, tolerating but not encouraging gay/lesbian/bi/trans/cross-dress.

All my stories are transgender stories and I have never understood why they are combined with the cross dressing stories.

What evidence would you have that tags aren’t used? I often search and find stories with specific kinks using tags.

Tags are easy to access. There’s a tag icon at the top of every story on the site, click on the icon and tap on a tag any you’re in the tag portal.

You can search across categories or only within chosen categories for stories using any tag or combination of tags.

What better story index is there?

If you search with the tags “Bisexual” “three way” “anal” the results will be stories featuring those tags.

If you replace “three way” with “threesome” or “mmf” or “fff” “mmm” your results are going to be the stories tagged with those. Experiment, change it up and you’ll get different results.

You can search “cheerleader, anal, trans” or substitute “trans” with “transgender” “T-girl” or “CD” or “Crossdresser” or “Post-op” or whatever you think of that someone may have used as a tag. If you get no results change it up a bit.

If an author is thoughtful about tagging they can be very useful.

Time on the AH led me to believe that a story category has never been added or split into more than one.

Unsure if that's true.

I think the current category list fell into place in the very early 2000s, with some new categories added, and some category names changed.

@Bramblethorn did a hunt back not long ago.

Thank you for confirming my fears. I guess my many years here are done, since I demand a little more than "tolerance" to my existence.

I said not used much. Don't move goal posts. I probably have as much evidence--17 years of observation--as you have that they are used however much you think they are. Over that time I've seen close to zero discussion on the board by folks who have searched by tag (yours here is the first I recall--and this shows what a read can do, not what any of them actually do) and I've never had an e-mail that mentioned having gotten to my stories by tags.

I don’t know how much they are used, only that they can be a useful tool - and much more effective than searching simply by category.

Have I offended you? What goal post are you referring to? Are we in a competition?

You haven't offended me, but your characterization of my posting I didn't think that tags were used much was pushed beyond the edge by your "aren't used."

The bottom line is that neither of us knows the extent to which they are actually used--my views on that being formed by 17 years of what isn't talked about here or messaged to me--and this was about whether they are actually used or not--not about whether they are capable of being use. Another move of the goal posts in the discussion.

I don't think that Literotica readers, in general, put much effort into researching for the stories they read at all. I think that most of them look at one of two lists--the daily New list and the hubs of choice, select from there, and that's it. On that basis, I agree with where the OP of this thread was going--that there should be more non-straight hubs/categories here if this wanted to be a balanced site. It has over twenty categories/hubs for straight sex and few or none of non-straight sex.

Well since the site managers don’t seem to be interested in making changes to the categories maybe tags should be talked about more. ;)

They’re easy to access and certainly are not “buried.”

The discussion on what the next big change at Literotica will be has been the dropping of categories altogether and just going to tags. We'll have to see. My own view of that is that the majority of readers will not be interested/willing to put more effort to finding their next read here than the current category system gives them.

Hmm. Keyword searches are pretty much the norm for the internet, no? Why do you suppose people wouldn’t be inclined to use it here?

Not for taking a minute of opportunity when in heat to read a dirty story. Literotica isn't the normal Internet.

Maybe others can weigh in on how they find stories on this site--although that discussion would be skewed because I don't think the common Literotica reader bothers to come to the discussion board at all. I don't search on tags at all--and wouldn't, but I don't read on the site, so that's not particularly relevant.

I originally found literotica buy searching google for “story” and various keywords which happened to be various tags.
