The effect is carried well in part because of the paper. Its parchment paper like one would use for calligraphy. Because its not a stark white paper it lends pleasantly to shades and colors.

The flesh shading is simply a very light brown Prismacolor pencil, and I practically let the weight of the pencil itself put the color on the paper. The same goes for the white highlights, which again are carried very nicely because of the color of the paper itself.

Almost the same thing with the gems. Technically, rather than simply shading in the color tones of the stones, there should have been streaks of light in the color of the stone running along her skin, but time constraints kept me from planning out how the colors should run across her body. I used minimal color shading with them so I could go back later and lay in the color streaking from the gems. Now, if I could just find that damn Round-to-it button.

Shading and highlight is something I'll have to work on.
Can you get the parchment in watercolour weight as well?

I'm not sure about that. I've found a slightly thicker parchment recently that I had to get because water was spilled all over the previous pad which ruined it immediately. I don't believe that the new stuff would be any less susceptible to water damage.

I've seen other types of paper that get labeled as "parchment," but they're more like linen paper, and I've only seen them in white. I've been considering auditioning some of that with my inks as soon as I get out of my current project.

First off, I cant figure out how small to make these photos to get them to post on here.

Second, H'n'H, Linen should work well, its a natural fibre and usually much thicker than regular sketch paper. Just depends on how absorbent the top fibres are allowing a percentage of the water to be absorbed without distroying the paper itself.

I live in a relatively small town and Walmart or Staples is the only access I have to papers. BUT!! In September when Im off to College, there is a book store that carries art supplies that Im sure Im going to snag, dont tell anyone that they arent related to my course though! lol

I've downloaded a few that I love, for the AH Calendar, and I'll probably put at least four in.

Just one thing, I've downloaded the one you are using as your current AV - it's gorgeous, do you have a larger version of it you could let me have in some way?

The pictures cannot be bigger than 800x600 pxls, and 100k file.

I use Photoshop to reduce mine to the 800x600, and then the 'save for web' option, to reduce the file size, without reducing the picture size.

It can be fiddly getting right on the 100k or 99.9k, but its worth it.

Lets see how good of a teacher Mat is!

The first shot is of the original buildings in Lower Quebec City. Built with the limestone thats abundant in the area. The quartz cobble stone was brought from Europe as balasts in the bottom of the ships and used to pave their streets.

The second shot is looking down one of the streets, I cant remember its name, with the group of girls I watched over.
