Senior Moments

Hi Spenser and friends - Subscribing with a post.

I'm 58 year old in reasonably good health. I could lose 15 lbs and exercise more, but I see my doctor annually and the tests all come out OK.

Although I have friends who are beginning to retire and talk about it, I'm not even close. After a divorce and putting 5 kids through undergrad, I have some financial ground to make up. It's OK, I enjoy my work as a manufacturers' rep and it's physically and mentally easy on me. Developing and maintaining relationships comes fairly naturally. I can see doing it until I'm 70 or older.

And . . . a little levity:
Finding one of her students making faces at others on the playground, Ms. Smith stopped to gently reprove the child. Smiling sweetly, the Sunday school teacher said, "Johnny, when I was a child, I was told if that I made ugly faces, it would freeze and I would stay like that." Johnny looked up and replied, "Well, Ms Smith, you can't say you weren't warned."

Ha.....well, I'll probably be around here a bit more often, so I'm sure you will!

When did you wind up in WV? I thought you were in Kentucky?

I retired at 58. I'd planned to teach 40 years, but I couldn't take the adults I was working with.

My experience is similar to this, except mine was a work-related knee and ankle injury. Mostly all of my significant work history involved using physical strength and/or lost of activity, often repetitive. Anyway, I'd love to be able to homestead somewhere and take care of the farm. However, I spend my days happily trying to keep breathing, eating, drinking and smiling as best I can, happy to be able to pay the rent.

I am in KY but I am on the Border of WV and OH.... I mean I am RIGHT ON IT! So when I say I am near Huntington, then people know where I am at because I am just 20 mins from there.

We're a retired couple who are usually well behaved, unless the situation calls for misbehaving....:D
 
It just occurred to me that in looking for new places to live, pretty soon I'll be able to consider one of those over-55 communities. Ugh.

Only say "Ugh" when you have to look at those "assisted living" facilities. Then, I'd rather they just shoot me. :)

I would hate to watch my neighbors check out. I live in a high rise with all ages; including college kids from SLU. A bunch of people my age would drive me crazy.
