the U.S should send in b52's right now and bomb kabul with food parcels and aid
the population hate the taliban but are powerless to stop them , to give them real aid would help to turn them against the tyrants and win the propaganda war .
it is only 20 years since the afghans were one of the usa's greatest allies , many still remember who helped them against the russians .

The "hearts and minds of the people policy" is always a good option. It was tried in the beginning stages of the Vietnam War but was considered by the politicians to take too long. So they switched to death and destruction instead.

But as this is going to be a very long campaign time doesn't matter all that much as long as we eliminate, or contain, terrorism.

THe fact that US involvement in afghanistan has been forgotten, the taliban does not represent the majority of afghanistan so to bomb all of afghanistan, what i'm trying to say is we shouldn't just jump to conclusions and bomb everyone, we take time, plan, then strike with full and effective force.

Totally into it -

We couldn't do much better than to drop food, photos of the WTC bombing, and posters advertising the $25 million price on bin Laden's head, plus calls for peace if we can secure Al Qaeda's leaders, forces, and camps. It couldn't do any harm. We're going to be confronted with problems of governance there anyway and might as well make a good first impression.

It is interesting to see some of the Administration's people fretting over how far we should go in toppling the Taliban. There are definitely thoughts that we should leave them in place, as the devil we know is better than the one we don't. If that sounds familiar, it should: It's what Bush's father's aides (many of them the same folks as today's brain trust) said in arguing that we should leave Saddan Hussein in power 10 years ago. Now they want to bomb him.

I hope we get it right. Pabloback's idea sounds like a joke, but it's not.
