Sen Olympia Snow to retire

You know her statement given the likelihood of a Dem getting her seat being at least 50/50 it sounds like she's basically saying she'd rather give more control to the Democrats than be be a part of the gridlock. Sad that she feels that way.

"As one of the only Republican moderates left in the Senate, Snowe has been at the center of some of the upper chamber's most divisive policy debates
and has helped craft compromises on some of the nation's most polarizing issues."

"Throughout her career in public office, she has shown a willingness to defy her party's leadership. Snowe supports abortion rights, opposes drilling
in the Alaska Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and has backed proposals long-heralded as bedrocks of the Democratic platform, including
adding prescription drug benefits to Medicare and raising the minimum wage. She was the one of the only Senate Republicans
to help craft bipartisan health-reform legislation during President Obama's 2009-2010 push to overhaul
the health-care system, but she (????) opposed the bill."

Snowe announces she won't seek re-election

http://www.pressherald.com/news/Snowe-not-running-for-re-election.html

Snowe said she no longer wanted to serve in an increasingly partisan and polarized Senate.

“As I have long said, what motivates me is producing results for those who have entrusted me to be their voice and their champion,”
Snowe said in a statement. “I do find it frustrating, however, that an atmosphere of polarization and ‘my way or the highway’
ideologies has become pervasive in campaigns and in our governing institutions.”

(Snowe, in her statement, said she didn't expect the current state of political polarization to improve in the next six years,
which would have been the length of her new term.)

Snowe said she intends to hold a press conference on Friday in Portland.

She was a big whining RINO.

Conservative definition of a RINO~Anyone in the GOP that won't march in ideological lockstep with the party extremes.

Actual definition of a RINO~One who puts pragmatism ahead of ideology in order to find a solution that actually works.

Yes, but better keeping the seat red than going blue. The repeal of Obamacare just got that much harder in the name of ideological purity.

Naw Wok, Snow was always blue.... useless to the Repubs.

I'm guessing the seat will turn bright red, just like a lot of seats turned red in 2010....

Classy lady. Good Senator.

The Republicans could use a lot more of her kind, but that's not gonna happen. Hope she has a long and happy retirement.

And having spent a good thirty years in the Senate has to have contributed to the problems she complains about.

Most likely but I dunno. You admit she's a RINO that doesn't sound to me like someone who's part of the hyperpartisan divide crippling congress. This is one of those times where you're opinion matters a great deal to me. :D

I am no seer. Anything can happen in an election season. Best of luck. You are going to need it.

if you're going to cross the aisle most of the time, why not just stand up and join the other side?

That wasn't what you were saying when she voted against health care reform and was just fine tossing her vote in with the rest of the GOP's filibuster spam on any number of issues.

Unlike Snow, Lugar's not going voluntarily...

...but just like Snow, he's going nonetheless.

Now you're going around talking about ejaculating into other men's bodies? Taking a page from Vette?

Please put me back on iggy.

Maine got its taste of Tea Party government when its current governor snuck through with 38 percent of the vote in 2010, and he's been a disaster.

The only Republican who can keep that seat is someone like Snowe. If they nominate a Dixie-style Republican, they will lose. Book it.
