Hey again...walking is great - but a lot of it has to do with how fast you walk as well. If you're just walking at a comfortable pace, it's not fast enough!
As for the kids, metabolism has nothing to do with whether they will become obese! We live in a society that is pathogenic when it comes to obesity. We are in the middle of an obesity epidemic (the number of people who are overweight in the world now equal the number of people who are starving for the first time ever). Our culture's addiction to television, video games, and the internet has reduced the amount of time kids spend being active. If a parent is overweight, the chances of the child being overweight greatly increase because parents have a tendency to instill their own eating patterns and activity levels on their children. Your kids may not be overweight now, but starting good habits now with respect to food and activity can prevent them from becoming overweight in the future.
In my case, my mom didn't start gaining weight until after she had her third child, my dad has never been overweight himself and has always been very active. I, however, have fought my weight my entire life. I've never been obese but I was always one of the "fat" kids at school. I'm also a lot like my mother. My sisters however who are more like my father have never really battled with their weight. The 3 of us come from the same 2 people and yet our lifestyles have a HUGE impact on our weights and our bodies. Sure I'd love to fit into a size 2 like my sister but I have to realize that's not going to happen. Right now I'm fighting to fit into a single digit size for the first time since I was 10 years old.
