Also seems odd that people react within those threads, since any 4th-grader could figure out it has more to do with getting attention than anything like logic or conversation.

I've noticed quite a few of those "odd" coincidences.
Yayati returned after someone (don't remember who) casually remarked that they hadn't seen him in a while.
