Male MC visits a widow friend to console her after her husband's recent early death.

At university, the three of them had been in a close-knit circle of like-minded students. At one time, it had been very much on the cards that MC and the lady might become an 'item'... but things did not work out that way. MC marries 'on the rebound'...

The holding close/tears on the sofa gradually become more than that.

MC's wife, waiting in the car outside, begins to twiddle her thumbs and wonder what's keeping hubby. MC and widow meanwhile, gasping in the throes of lust and with the deceased firmly put out of mind, arrive at a climactic height that neither of them had experienced before...

... and the sofa is given more of a workout than it has seen in some time...

A very arousing scenario. Therefore scant attention paid to it here which seems to be becoming an ever more infantile forum.

Again, as ever I can easily think of the lesbian twist to this.

The rekindling of an old flame is hardly unheard of and can certainly happen under stressful or emotional circumstances.

In a way, this could be quite a romantic story - although Kim is right in thinking it very hot in its bare bones as described in the OP.

Does the wife finally wonder WTF is taking so long and decide to go inside? What to her wondering eyes should appear? Does she scold, or join in the fun?

I like the idea of this, though not the cheating part.

My mother's first cousin, whom I call Uncle Pete, lost his wife to cancer in his 40's. A couple years later, his old high school flame shows up back in town and they meet accidently. They have been married now for 20+ years.

So a mourning wife who runs into her old HS crush, and hooks up, feels very grounded and realistic. Maybe she's gotta feel some guilt after and she puts the old BF off for a while, meanwhile he's sending apology letters, taking blame for her anguish and ... you get the picture.

There's a good romantic and very human idea here. I think adding cheating to the dynamic dooms this to the Loving Wives category, to readers who won't appreciate the romance.

Can't see why having cheating as one aspect of any tale "dooms" it immediately to a particular category.

Strikes me that the cheating described here is merely a by-product of the reawakening of the lust flame, as OOOzing put it. It's all about the lust. The cheating is merely an added toe-curl.

I do like this one. My toes are definitely curling.
