Searching for two stories

I have two stories I cannot seem to find. I believe both were multi-part:

1. Widower (is/was a minister?) takes in a mother and her young daughter. The man & woman fall in love, marry, and he adopts the daughter.

2. A (former?) cop takes in a domestic abuse victim and her young son. He falls in love with her.
