Searching for stories...

I see that Manu has revamped the search feature for stories (unless I've always been blind and didn't read each searchable tab there!), which is very cool but still is not helping me with my search.

I wish to search by date, which they have to an extent. I want to find stories submitted in 2000, and then 2001 and so on, without having to just open a category and randomly look at the dates that go by. (The search feature lists "date" as "added in the last week", "added in the last month", and so on. )

I know some people show as registered in Aug 99 like Laurel and Manu... Does anyone know if there were any 1999 stories on Lit? :) Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!

I don't want to give up on my search yet. :( Does anyone know if there were any stories posted in 1999? Heck, is the site older than that even? I know '99 shows the oldest registered members...

The story search feature looks the same as I remember it. I don't know of any way to search by year. It would be nice, though.

Eve, the above reply has nothing to do with you and I apologize for having caused it. :rose:

Well, but we still don't know. Not me, anyhow. I don't even know why it might be useful to search by date, unless you have an axe to grind.

I planned on working on a lil' project...reviews of Lit author's stories...and was going to group my submission kinda like "Eve's Picks: 2000" or whatever. :)

It's possible to kind of search by date...as in "stories submitted in the last week", "stories submitted in the last month", and so on. "Within the last year" is as far back as that feature goes.

I just thought it would be neat to start with Lit's beginning if there were stories that old. (I know there's posts in the board that old, including in the Story Ideas board where people requested stories for Lit.)

Not sure?

I'm not sure if this will help. I've only been around since the end of 2005 but I noticed tha if you go to the last page of the AH posts, it take you back to 1999. Maybe you can check there and see what you can fine. I noticed most names there don't post now.
Good Luck

Thanks. :) That is a good idea. I know in the SI board it's mostly "unregistered users" saying "sex wit ur aunt would be kewl". lol Yes, that would be their "story idea". Nothing more added. No plot suggested.

Odd question/comment for those who may be interested.

So, I did as DG Hear suggested and searched the "last page" of this board to see what kind of posts I could find. Of course, the posts were from 1999. In fact, there was one where a couple of people gave praise to an author named The Devils Advocate for one of his stories. (Return to the Womb Ch. 1 if you wish to read it. lol) The thread was from Oct '99, yet on the story side of the board it shows the story was submitted to Lit on 10/16/00. Is that an odd glitch that happened one of the many times Lit has updated and revamped their site?

Anyway, I just figured I'd share my findings in case anyone else was interested. :)

OK, I'm a hacker in every sense of the term. I write systems like this, I know how to abuse them.

If you go to http://www.literotica.com:81/stories/showstory.php?id= and put in low numbered values for 'id' you will get the first stories on the site. There doesn't seem to be a story number 1. However

1: (no such story?)
2: (no such story?)
3: Death Ch. 09
4: The Mirror Ch. 09
5: Joel Finds Happiness
6: (no such story?)
7: (no such story?)
8: (no such story?)
9: Oh Susannah
10: Teaching Patti Ch. 1

This assumes that story numbers are assigned serially. I'm prepared to bet they are. I have written systems which intentionally assigned keys randomly, which makes it hard to check for earliest... but that was for a particular purpose.

So I'm willing to bet that Death Ch. 09, by Carl East, is the first story posted to Literotica which has not subsequently been deleted. Why Chapter 9? God knows.

ETA: if I'm right, the first story was posted on the 19th June 2000. Anyone know of an earlier post?

That is interesting, but you can find BB posts from 1999 where people give praise for stories they've read (and some say "I've been reading this site for quite a while...") and yet when you look up the stories they're all listed as 2000.

H'mmm... maybe there was a big rewrite of the content engine in the first half of 2000, and the stories were then migrated over from the older system?

I figured maybe something happened during one of the several "fixes" Manu has done to this site. :) In fact, the story I linked as an example falls pretty closely with the feedback with the exception of "being one year off". lol

Main point is, it seems to have answered the question I had for this writing project I was interested in! :)

Glad it helped!

I'm happy you found what you were looking for. Makes me feel that I did something nice for someone.

Do you know if a "default" date was slapped onto them, or did they simply vanish off Lit?
09/01/00, I believe (although different authors got their stories transferred into the system in different dates).
