Quinn laid silent in the bed that Henri had placed her in. Her eyes were open but she wasn't watching or listening. She had closed her mind, it was a skill she didn't know she had until she was able to close out Henri and the other voices trying to deceive her. She wanted her mind closed so that no more images of Flan and Mary Katherine could come to her. Her body felt weak. But she knew that she needed to get stronger, for Morgan. SHe had no will left for herself, but she could not let the precious life within her slip away.
The McKenna women were indeed rich with magic, they always had been. Quinn traveled within her own mind, trying to find the strength to endure. Henri had drained almost all of her strength, but she knew there had to still be some inside of her. Quinn concentrated on her lives past with Flan. Magic had lived in both Meara and Aithne. Aithne had been the child of a healer, her marriage to Flan bonded by Nessa. Meara had been able to see into the hearts of men. Quinn tried to remember.
Words of Aithne's came to her mind, and she focused all of her energy on them. She whispered the incantation. She felt her heart beat faster. She felt a little stronger, but she kept still with her mind cloaked.
Henri sat beside her bead, satisfied. Forrester was dead. He had sent Flan to the church. Flan would be beside himself after finding the blood stains and the clothes. He wanted Flan broken, just as he had broken poor little Quinn. Henri then left Quinn in the care of two of his minions. He had one more pretty little mortal to suck the life from and then enjoy.
