Last night's news about Roe v. Wade has definitely hit many of us hard and I wanted to create a space where y'all can angry and say the things you need to say without derailing other threads

So ... Shout away.

Donate to civil rights organizations such as the ACLU but if you can donate to both your local affiliate and the national one.

If you are a US citizen, register to vote
If you're not a US but can naturalize do it fast (but do it well so maybe talk to an attorney or go to an org)

Bush v. Gore was the canary in the coal mine for this. Democrats have loved fundraising off of this issue for way longer than they’ve cared about ensuring the rights of child bearing people are protected. Women and children are going to die because of this, and conservatives will celebrate that. Or, at least, they won’t mourn it. You can’t call yourself a free country when 1/2 of the population doesn’t have fundamental bodily rights.

Incandescently angry at the religious right who never stopped pushing this, and the mealy mouthed, pisspants liberals who wouldn’t stand up. Fucking a, the President himself, an ostensible liberal, can’t even say ’abortion’ in his statement.

Anyone coming in here making an issue of the leak and not the rollback of a basic bodily right should go and get so supremely and roundly fucked.

I'm a monthly donor to Planned Parenthood and I've donated to the ASLU many times. And boy do they really need our help now. Becoming a monthly donor to these organizations is easy and doesn't really cost that much overall.

The thing that gets me, and this is kind of incidental to the larger issue in play but bear with me, is the hypocrisy.

Individual freedoms! They shout. Personal choice! They scream. Mask mandates are a bridge too far because they abridge some nebulous sense of personal freedom, even though for the overwhelming majority they are barely an inconvenience. But a woman gets pregnant? Screw personal freedom, screw personal choice. You'll do what we damn well tell you and you'll like us and thanks us for it, dammit! If that condemns both you and your child to poverty, suffering and hardship then so be it. Because fuck you.

All this "love" for the pre-born, as they like to call them. But once you're born? You're fucked! Particularly if you're a woman or a person of color. We won't spend money on social issues or education. We won't make any efforts to prevent discrimination or systemic problems that hold you back. Why do people only matter UNTIL they are born? *reminds self to go find George Carlin's bit on this very subject, because it should be required reading for anybody over the age of 12 in this spiteful and hate driven country*

We MUST protect every life, and so abortion must be banned. But we love the death penalty. Kill 'em all, they're only law breakers! Even when it's increasingly proving that our court system has real, systemic and difficult to fix issues with putting innocent people, particularly minorities, behind bars for no better reason than they are minorities. Is this a "death to the infidels!" kind of thing? Maybe I'm in the minority here, I'll gladly concede that, but I'd rather let 2 killers go free than execute one innocent person. One is an injustice, the other is a goddamn crime against humanity.

I don't, for a second, want to donwplay the impact this has on women and women's health. It's a travesty. But this is so much bigger than JUST that.

and become election officials - judges of election, for example. It's a civic volunteer position, sometimes it's paid a little bit for the work. Oversee those motherfuckers trying to steal democracy, don't assume someone else will take care of it - most local election volunteers are old and "retired" because of covid.

This is where I've been at for 20 years. DEMOCRATS WILL NOT FIGHT BACK ON ANYTHING! Most Democrats, they'll roll over and play dead if you so much as breathe on them.

Republicans will happily burn this country to the ground and not bat an eye to get what they want. Democrats act like Joe Besser when he was in the Three Stooges: "Ow--not so hard!"

We refuse to fight, we refuse to play to win, and then wonder why we lose elections. Go figure.

Gerrymandering has ALWAYS been a nationwide problem for Democrats, as it pretty much always favors Republicans.

But gerrymandering is not going affect a statewide race. The bigger problem there is that Beto is going to get his ass handed to him. Then maybe we can find the next sacrificial lamb in that state.
