I'm American and so by definition am fairly oblivious to international politics, but I vote yes. Only because I think David Cameron is an elitist ass. Oh and because I actually like haggis. And my family are Scottish from way way back.

That's my educated vote.
That's the way a lot of folks are thinking but leaving the UK is for keeps: Cameron can be dealt with...

Good luck Scotland with what ever you choose .. you will always be in my eyes part of the United Kingdom...

All my years I thought I was half Sicilian, half German. Then I started getting into family history, doing some digging and found out that not only do I have a little Irish and English in me, I also have Scottish in me. Blood lines that some how date back to the king that united Scotland with England in the first place. My heart says yes. My mind, that is still up in the air. If I lived over there and could see more of how this would effect the day to day things, I could form my thoughts better. Either way, looks like a huge turn out and what ever happens is what they want moving forward.

So they've decided to stay. We should never have got to this position in the first place: the Scots feel out of touch with the rest of the country and that has to be put right

I had a fantastic time when I was in Scotland last year. The place and her people were giving of their time and hospitality. It was humbling to trace back peeps who brought their love of their heritage to NZ many moons ago and what they went through to do so. May they find the answers they need and happiness abound in their future endeavours as their story continues to unfold.

To me the most amazing thing is how so many people voted for a future
Which would have been in the hands of Alex Salmond And Nicola Sturgeon!!!!

Imagine the Krankies with power????

Common sense prevails! Home rule for Yorkshire!!!!!!

I know everyone knows it should have been Geoff Boycott as president elect!:D

Anyway welcome back Scotland! Presumably we can now all get on with our lives.

Salmon(d) and Sturgeon. If you think about it it was all a bit fishy. Lol

Amen to that, Sticks. While I am/was in the yes camp, there is yet much to be gained through allowing Scotland increased self-governence. Westmister must take heed of this warning shot over its bow.

I have a Scots friend through Tumblr and she was saying they needed more power - I said power to what exactly? She said they felt unrepresented by Westminster and I said, join the club. The whole issue is that London/Westminster is like another country: we are constantly patronised by them. I'm all for majority decisions but they aren't even answering the right questions.
Quite how Europe thinks it can act in our best interest is a complete fucking mystery to me.

I thought I set the pole to close today....
It looks like the yes vote here has increased after the real vote was no......:D

Hmm. Be careful what you wish for. Study the tax base and the budgets. The strength of the union is that revenue can be spread irrespective of where it is raised.

It is, in my opinion, a folly that 2.6m people in a union of 60m plus can throw the constitution into meltdown. That is neither Democratic nor beneficial.

Salmond seemed to want his cake and eat it. He may now receive more powers but without the pocket money to go with it!

The next few months will be interesting that is for sure. Middle England has stayed silent on this issue over the last couple of years. Wonder what would have happened if we had asked the whole of the Uk if Scotland should have left the union??

How far does independency go? We have an elected Mayor who thinks he is a dictator talking about 'my cabinet' and 'my vision'.

We are in danger of becoming like the 'Dukes of Hazard' ( if anyone remembers that) with a Boss Hogg running ever major city in the country.....

Just watched Cameron on the midday news and the truth is nobody knows. He is promising us all our own parliaments. Will have to canvas the Family for control of Castle Poppadog! ( who am I kidding I have no chance!)

Pandora, put that box down immediately!!!!!!!

Yea, basically every bastard will be out fro themselves, pay no tax and say 'Fuck you!' to everyone else...... Well maybe that is a bit extreme. smacks of Thatcherite yuppies....:D

Like you said, Pandora's box has been opened. Many will wish it had stayed shut.

Do we now start a petition to eject Scotland from the union?:D

Don't knock the Dukes of Hazard...it was a great television show.

How much independence do you have now? How much of your laws, rules, and regulations are determined by bureaucrats in Brussels? As to the existence of "Boss Hoggs", what make you think that doesn't already exist? Party machines determine who make up the slates of candidates, the actual spectrum of political dispute within the party elite is actually very narrow, and there is a disconnect between the governing class and the people which is why have parties like the BNP and the UKIP rising in terms of support (at least until they show themselves to be little different the major parties in seeking spoils and the benefits of patronage).

I don't live in Britain so Scottish Independence (had it passed) wouldn't have affected me one way or the other...but if there was one reason (and one reason alone) I would have wanted it to pass, it would have been to see the SNP and SLP have to try to pay for the socialist paradise they were promising on a purely Scottish dime (and put Margaret Thatcher's quote to work in a real world setting).

I was annoyed the referendum took place in the form it did. I grew up in England but my dad is Scottish so I've always considered my national identity to be British and I'm proud to be so. I'm neither English nor Scottish but British. Yet here were about 7% of the voting population of the country getting to decide on whether Britain should even continue to exist or not in its current form. As somebody up the thread said, that's not democracy: a tiny proportion of the population taking a decision that profoundly affects everybody else in the country is not democracy.

well this will really piss on your biscuit. I;m a Laird, legally. Which means that legally, I own land inScotland. True its an entire square foot of the Kincavel estate. However, it gives me the right to vote. I've never even been to Scotland

Well, sorry to piss on your biscuit, but actually it doesn't. Only people domiciled in Scotland could vote in the referendum. ;)
