Here is a little glimpse of my holiday and why I love Scarborough so much starting with highlights from A Tudor Joust day at Scarborough Castle.

An Audience with King Henry VIII and Lady Jane.

My daughter was told to look after me and my husband by royal decree!!!

And this is my favourite photo. I was enthralled by the falconry display and was really lucky to snap this.

Ah, a Harris hawk, Parabuteo unicinctus. This is North America's greatest contribution to the ancient sport of falconry as it is the only social raptor. It will bond with the falconer and his/her dog into a hunting machine of unparalleled effectiveness. Magnificant!

Yes, the Tudor's would have used a Gos Hawk but they are far too nervous to be shown infront of crowds of people. They showed a Great owl and a Lana Falcon too, both as beautiful. And there were wild Peregrine Falcons flying around the castle in the morning, that was a sight to see.

Nice pics! Thanks, EL.

You're welcome! :D

Wonderful pics L. The joust looks fun
:D

The Joust was fast and awe inspiring. It was thrilling. We all had a great time, it was a wonderful way to celebrate Mr EL's 30th Birthday :)

Great pics EL, we were in Scarborough early last month, but there was nothing that exciting on! We did have fish & chips and lemon tops though ;)

I love the pictures!

How marvelous to see a real joust!

Thank you for sharing!

Ooooh Lemon top! you have great taste :D We're so glad we went last week, the joust was so worth it :)

What's a lemon top?

I think it's a pastry. Certainly sounds like a pastry . . .

It's an ice-cream cone :) The BEST ice cream ever. It has whippy creamy ice cream on the bottom layer then sweet/sour/soft lemon sorbet on the top. Mmmmmmmmm.

So good, I had two. One on the Monday and one on the Friday. :)

You're welcome. It was amazing. I felt really honoured to be there. :)

More photos coming later.

Welcome back, love.
There's a definite gap on the boards when you go away.

Great pics, I've been trying to get to a joust at one of the venues in the area all summer, but so far they've all coincided with Min's working day.

Awww, thanks. :) The Jousts are well worth a visit, I can vouch for that :)

Lovely pics. I think Scarborough has to be added to our list of places to visit.

*sigh*

The pics made me even more jealous of your holiday. Glad to hear you had such a fab time :rose:

Thanks, love. :rose:

Everyone should visit Scarborough, really, it's an excellent holiday destination. We've all but booked our return trip for the end of May next year. :p

I miss Scarborough, and Bridlington. And Flamborough. Least I get to go to Whitby every now and again and scare the chavs...

I haven't been up to Whitby in a long while, maybe next time. :)

This year was the first time I'd been up to the castle in *thinks* about 18 years. It was good to rediscover it but I think without the joust it wouldn't have been *that* thrilling of an outing. *LOL*
