So fucking what? Can we please get over it? I say that word daily, I think. Can we stop making a big deal over it when a candidate turns out to be a normal person?

Jimmy Carter was on Meet The Press last year (looking very ancient, btw) and was talking about gubernatorial elections in Georgia when he ran and his extreme disdain for the "county unit" system (1 county - 1 vote in legislature, now outlawed).

He got torqued up and said "everyone knew it was BOOSHIT"

the host tried to gently give him cover, Carter wasn't having any of it...

"I called it BOOSHIT because it was BOOSHIT"...

:D

It takes a helluva lot more to make Santorum a normal person.

If the candidate presents himself as a "normal person," then I would tend to agree. If he presents himself as better than you and me, certainly better than the atheist Muslim in the White House, and is the favored candidate of moral busybodies all over America, then the charge of hypocrisy comes into play. Why, when me and Rick were kids, "bullshit" would have called for an entire rosary's worth of penance, easy.

(I'm leaving aside that there was no good reason in this case for him to lose his temper; the question asked was totally legitimate.)

I haven't read anything about it. But I'd imagine the idea is not that he did something like a normal person, but that he's staked out a position of moral superiority and intolerance toward what many of us would consider normal human behavior--which he is willing to abandon when it's his own wife's abortion or his language.

Having said that, is 'bullshit' even a curse word anymore? I'm pretty sure you can say it in network prime-time programming.

Apparently he no longer feels the need to pander to the Bovine-American vote.

I would vote for any presidential candidate who told another to go fuck himself during a national debate. That is my kind of guy.

We all think this but the reality is that someone who does that demonstrates a lack of self control. I deservedly lost a debate in college just for saying "that's dumb."
A leader must have control and think before he speaks.
I'd laugh if a candidate told another to go fuck himself and I'd probably like him/her more but they might also lose my vote.

telling someone to go fuck themselves has no place in a presidential debate. that language should stay where it belongs... in the senate chamber.

That's mild for you...

You didn't call them a stupid, fucking idiot?

Really depends on who is telling who to go fuck themselves and under what context.

I suppose there could be times when it might be acceptable but I can't imagine there'd be too many. I would be more accepting of it if it were a case of the mic not being turned off and us catching a glimpse of a more private exchange.

You can ask that because you know exactly what I'm like in real life.

There's a bit of truth in all fiction. A person is pretty much the totality of how they represent themselves. You're an agressive bitch here, you're an aggressive bitch out there. Or a wannabe...

And you have a freakishly large forehead...

Are you talking about my Miss Congeniality..?..

Actually, as a "clean English" advocate, Santorum probably lost my support with that one.

Maybe he can get a job in the entertainment industry, he certainly won't be President after that. Shame on him.

It doesn't make him normal. it makes him a religious fanatic who says bullshit when he loses his temper.

I don't give a fuck about the language. It's the fanaticism that disqualifies him in my book.

So you really are a stupid fuck then? OK.
