Sanford's tears

Ah, FOX News. Crafty and sneaky and dishonest, aren't they?

I think they may have trouble making this one stick. Sanford has been the "hero" to fiscal conservatives for rejecting the federal stimulus money. He's the chair of the Republican Governor's Association. He's been a loud Obama critic and there's been talk of him as a future presidential candidate.

Maybe he's been in the press just enough so they can't pretend he's a democrat.

While we're at it, let's mention his statements (he was in congress as part of the 'Contract on America' repuptard project) when President Clinton was having his pee-pee whacked! He repeatedly called for Clinton to resign because he'd 'disgraced' the office of President......mighty ironic that the shoe is on the other foot, or, as my hillbilly buddy says: If the foo shits!.........

I can just see the spin at GOPHQ . . .

"Well, at least he was cheating with a woman!"

"What is wrong with cultivating the Hispanic demographic?"

Funny thing, yanno? It used to be that all Dem scandals had do to with sex and the Rep's were all about money. Wonder when it changed.

I didn't hear half of what he said; I couldn't stop laughing with the smirking woman over his right shoulder.

To be fair, arguments against Clinton could have been less about having an affair than about lying under oath about it. But note that Sanford also called for the resignation of Republican leader Bob Livingstone when he, too, had an affair, saying, "The bottom line is...he lied under oath. He lied under a different oath, and that is the oath to his wife."

So let's give Sanford this, he didn't let politics get in the way of his hypocrisy (so to speak). He was equally hard on those in his own party who broke their marriage vows as he was on those of the opposition party ;)

Balls. To really be fair, the Republicans were digging for anything they could to get at Clinton. The "lied under oath" was just the best handle they could get hold of. A pretty "so what" handle at that. It wasn't anything to do with national security that he lied about. It was about a personal failing we'd all lie about--what everyone else in that situation has lied about until they couldn't get away with it anymore.

Sanford is a dumb fuck for A) going AWOL...he's the governor for chrissake! B) lying about it...both his absence and his affair, C) being a goddamn hypocrite...nuf sed, D) going so freakin' far away for something on the side and E) being so damn clumsy and getting caught.
I'm gonna bet that he wanted to be caught, because those are some damn stupid mistakes and even a noob at affairs wouldn't make 'em. Either that, or he was totally, Blue Angel infatuated with his Argentinean Mistress.

Have we any idea what the mistress looked like? I'm not sure whether to be hopeful or very, very afraid!

Oh, I agree. I'm just sayin' that Sanford might not have been railing against Clinton's breaking his marriage vows (hypocrisy given that he's done so) as compared to lying under oath (not hypocrisy as he hasn't sworn before any justice department that he didn't have sex with "that woman" right?). I'm not arguing that there was any merit in either position against Clinton

But again, Sanford wasn't railing about any of that. He was trying to "get" Clinton. Whatever point he was using was just a convenience.

If he had said 'lover' we might be able to question the sex thereof but 'mistress' is pretty much defined as female. :D

Still, what was that Florida congressman's name . . . ?

Hmmm. If you didn't call your transvestite lover your mistress, you'd probably get bitch slapped. :D

The latest!

 Really, as affairs go, even ones committed by a holier-than-thou hypocrite, this one's pretty tame and dull. Bring back the other guy with the prostitution ring or the one cruising the park for large, black hustlers....still, there are a few lessons to be learned from his story:
South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford admitted Tuesday that he saw his Argentine mistress more times than previously disclosed, including what was to be a farewell meeting in New York chaperoned by a spiritual adviser soon after his wife found out about the affair....the governor described five meetings with Maria Belen Chapur over the past year, including two romantic, multi-night stays with her in New York before they met there again intending to break up.

...He previously announced he would reimburse the state for money spent during a government trip to Brazil and Argentina in June 2008 when he saw Chapur. He insists no public money was used for any other meetings with her.

...The governor said he met Chapur in Punta Del Este, Uruguay, in 2001...the two struck up an e-mail correspondence after meeting on a dance floor -- a chance encounter during which he counseled her into the night about her failing marriage...For the next seven-plus years, Sanford said, the two exchanged messages, sometimes sporadically. He took a state economic development trip to South America in 2008 and the relationship became physical, after which their e-mails reflected his anguish over what they'd done. "Now I am frightened," he told the AP, describing his state of mind at the time. "It was before safe. But now it's not safe. We gotta put the genie back in the bottle."

...In early 2009, after Jenny Sanford discovered the affair, the couple went into counseling. She has told The Associated Press that he asked her several times to visit the mistress and she refused. But the governor claims he wanted to end the affair in person and, with his wife's permission, went to New York with a "trusted spiritual adviser" serving as chaperone. The three went to church and dinner together and parted ways the same night. But he visited Chapur again in Argentina on June 18, one final trip that brought the whole affair to light.
Complete article here.

Several lessons to be learned here:
1) E-mail affairs are a slippery-slope and should be avoided if you plan to remain in politics.
2) Spiritual advisors may make good dinner companions, but they're lousy chaperones.
3) If you're in a BDSM relationship, do not expect your Dom to give you permission to visit your new mistress, no matter how abjectly you beg.

Any other lessons we've learned from this?

Let's just give Sanford a pass for deserting his RESPONSIBILITIES while he dallied with his girlfriend/soulmate. Is that the same as a soul train? Or a love train?
My point, 3113, is that Mr Clinton did not mix politics and sex...the reputards, Mr Sanford one of his chief detractors at the time was particularly vehement about Clinton resigning about 'violating his marriage vows'.....Remember, this was when the repubtards were branding themselves as the 'party of purity and family values.....'
Clinton was able to execute the office of President while Sanford doesn't seem to be able to zip his pants.......
Livingstone and Craig also railed for Clinton's resignation.....More Republican hypocrisy.....
I give none of them any quarter.....if ya wanna play, ya gotta pay........
